In which John Watson finds himself in the curious position of being in love with Sherlock Holmes, despite his lack of sexual attraction to him. Asexual!Sherlock/Straight!John. Platonic romance/nonsexual soulmates.

"Do you think for one second that if Sherlock Holmes ever decided to kill someone, you'd know or even suspect him?" John defends Sherlock in an unconventional way. Pre-slash-ish. Maybe. Mostly just John being awesome and condescending.

It was entirely out of character for Sherlock Holmes to have a friend, and yet John Watson was willing to be that's what they were. After all, he'd killed for the man, and would likely have to again, given Sherlock's lack of self preservation.

Despite John Watson turning his words around on him, Sherlock Holmes was not an idiot. He was capable of putting together information to deduce that John Watson had nearly died in Afghanistan from a bullet that narrowly missed his heart. Post SiP.

John Watson isn't the only person with nightmares. This story considers what nightmares plague five different characters from the series.
