Now M Rated: My take on what happens next with River and Twelve after the "And They Lived Happily Ever After" message. If Twelve thought a 24 years date would be a relaxing way of temporarily retiring from his countless adventures, he's made to think again, when a few surprises come his and River's way.

Ever since he lost his sight, John Smith (Eleven) had always felt out of place. Lonely. A drifter. People either turned away or pitied him- The Blind Man. He said goodbye like he was going to come back, but neither one of them really believed him, and River has someone important counting on her to get out alive, and survive what's waiting for her on the other side. After being being rescued and settling into her new life, River manages to orchestrate the surprise of the Doctor's life all while he's completely unaware. Told through a series of snapshots over the course of a few years of their life. Falls in line towards the end of my story The Engineer and the Magician and goes forward from there.

It's not always easy being the wife of the Doctor. He is never entirely River's, not in the same way that she is wholly his. And it's times like this when River looks to her mother for comfort. The Doctor talks River into going bowling, trouble is, he sucks at it...

"I'm not seeing it." "Of course you don't. Rory's your husband and River's your daughter. You want to believe that everything's all right and nothing needs fixing. In actuality, River and Rory would need nothing short of a Christmas miracle to have a father-daughter relationship together." The Doctor takes it upon himself to fix River and Rory's slightly strained relationship.

"She makes my hearts feel like they're being microwaved," said the Doctor. "Then I can't breathe, and I have to stop talking, and she always wins whatever argument we're having." Amy snorted. "Sounds like you're in love."

She's on a bed that's far too soft for her liking but the unmistakable hum of a TARDIS tells her exactly where she is and so what if she's already contemplating how to override the ship's controls and create a little havoc? A girl needs a hobby, after all.

"Sweetie, there is a car coming at us, because you are driving on the wrong side of the damn road!" River shrieked at the top of her lungs. The Doctor saw the headlights of the car and swerved, narrowly avoiding a collision.

She remembered that her mother had listened to her father… Except she didn't. She didn't remember. Her father had left them when she was little, so she couldn't possibly remember her father laughing and smiling and twirling her around a brightly lit console room. OC-centric.

Matt doesn't do one night stands, so he's taking River out on a date. Rose travels with John in a strictly platonic sense, but their friends sent them on a couples cruise instead of Brazil. Clara abruptly realized that she had never seen the Doctor with that light in his eyes. Sometimes she'd catch a sort of softness when he looked at her, a fondness, maybe even love, but nothing like the way he looked at River—as if the space-haired archaeologist was the center of his universe.

"Howdoyoukissawoman?" the Doctor asked in one breath, sitting down on the chair next to Rory.

It's a soft, early morning. River and the Doctor have stayed over at Amy and Rory's house. They decide to make everyone breakfast. But things get, distracting.

She burst out laughing, so hard that her curls bounced and her shoulders shook, and when her hysterical giggles had finally subsided she looked up and said very seriously, "That was the worst pick-up line I've heard in a century."

His memory is perfect. And maybe that's the problem.

She was sort of his friend, not really, and she was damn annoying when she flounced in with her curls and flew his TARDIS better than him. But she was also soft (as he'd discovered when she fell on top of him in that gorgeous black dress) and beautiful (with or without makeup and high heels) and clever (annoyingly so) and so could you really blame him for being attracted to her?
