General Status Update: we're still alive.

That said, I recently left my old job for a new one. Pretty much the same hours (theoretically. It's salary, so unpaid OT is a possibility), more than double the pay, plus benefits. Woo, go me! Unfortunately, that comes with some caveats. Where before, I could use my engineered downtime to write while at work, here I can't even bring in my own laptop and have to use the company laptop. And they have strange ideas about how I.T. should always be seen to be doing something even if it's just make-work. Also, it's a plant environment. All plants are pretty much the same: huge, hot, and loud. I'm still adjusting, but once I do I'll get back into the writing groove.

For those of you who've been asking if I've got cancer: thank you for your concern. However, I assure you, I am healthy as a horse. An overweight, out of shape, out to pasture draft horse, but a horse nonetheless. We have no idea where this came from and all of us have gotten emails about it, so we figured it'd be best to just post something here. No one has cancer, to our knowledge.

And finally...

While I haven't had much of a chance to work on The Name of the Game, I have been busy writing other things as the chance came up. Unfortunately, most of those stories were utter garbage. But since it apparently rates well with readers of other authors, I figured, 'why not?'

Coming soon: The Dumpster Fire. A collection of failed stories for you to point and laugh at. Or just hold your nose and complain about the stink.

The Name of the Game

Next Scheduled Update: unknown.

Current published word count: 691,087.

Current chapters in reserve: 0.90.

Current chapter status: Chapter 34 in progress, ~50% complete. 34xa uploaded to gdocs for editing, about 12k words so far but these things tend to grow and we were planning to move into shorter chapters for this Disc eventually.

Split 34 into two parts due to length, currently working on fleshing out more details and redoing some me, it's not nearly as bad as last chapter, our problem here is real life issues that have kept popping up. Work, kidnappings (read: social life), and power loss due to storms to name a few. Chapter 35 in progress, ~30% complete. Chapter 36 in progress, ~10% complete.

Story status: Paused due to employment concerns.

Updating: Once the situation is resolved.

Rated: M for language, violence, alcohol use, moderate sexual content, inflammatory opinions.

Betas: Chinlamp, Vrael Nocturnal.

Concise summary: an unapologetic deconstruction of the RWBY/The Gamer crossover genre, played with the lafftrak turned off; with a focus on world and character building and fleshing out some of the details RT missed.

Tags: SI, semi-AU, crossover, deconstruction, harem.

A few notes, for those of you who follow this:

Everything is now mirrored on Ao3. There are a few formatting issues between FFN and Ao3, such as my lines sometimes disappearing or random spaces appearing where they shouldn't, and a character limit that forced me to split chapter 32 in half... but considering the absolute volume of content to go through, I won't be digging through everything before Chapter 33 to look for it.

The link for that is

link: https:///works/15861762

FFN translated link: archiveofourown(dot)org(slash)works(slash)15861762

On the (repeated) urging of reviewers and PMs, I've created a maker support pat re on page under this name.

With that being said... I'm not asking for money. Do not feel obligated to give me (or chinlamp, or vrael, if/when they get around to making their own accounts) a dime. My reasoning against doing it for so long was that I didn't want to digitally panhandle beg for donations, and to be honest, I still don't. Chinlamp, however, convinced me to go ahead and say something about it. His wording? Think of it like a tip jar.

And with the intention being to actually release paid original content later (sentiment seem to favor Necro for first release), I don't see the harm in it any more.

So, if you decide me keeping you entertained is worth a tip, thank you. Sincerely.

If not, thanks for being the awesome readers you are.

Either way, I'm going to keep on as I have been.

The Name of the Game reviews
A man from Earth wakes up to find himself stuck in the body of a fictional teenage boy with an ability that turns his life into a video game and foreknowledge of events to come. What could possibly go wrong? A take on the RWBY/Gamer crossover niche with an SI twist, a focus on world and character building, and fleshing out some of the details RT missed. Rated 'M' for a reason.
