Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
WHO AM I?br /br /br / br /br / br / I am Joelle8, of course! I haven't beta-read many stories on this site before, but I find many hours of my week taken up by editing my friends' essays, stories, etc. So, technically, I've been a beta-reader for years.br /br / br / br /br / br / MY BETAREADING STYLE:br /br / br / br /br / br / Hmm... I tend to specialize in grammar and spelling, as I excel in both of those. Also, I sometimes add and/or take out words to help a sentence make more sense. I may suggest more descriptive words for the author or the story to use from time to time as well.br /br / br / br /br / br / EXPECTATIONS OF ANYONE WHO WISHES TO ACQUIRE MY SERVICES:br /br / br / br /br / br / 1. Be patient with me; 2. Let me make the corrections I feel are necessary, and PLEASE try to keep arguing with me to a minimum; and that's about it, really. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am proud to say that my grammar and spelling is impeccable. I also have a massive vocabulary, and therefore can suggest synonyms to commonly used words to help your writing sound more interesting. I tend to write detailed descriptions to give the reader an idea of what people and things might look like. Many of my stories on this site are romance and drama, as I am fairly good at writing that; also, I am pretty good at humor, and capturing the characters' personalities, I'd like to think. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Sometimes I use a bit too much description. Also, when it comes to writing brief stories/chapters or summaries, I just... can't. I try, I really do, but my chapters always seem to be between 2000 and 3000 words; sometimes more. Additionally, although I've tried to write them before, fight scenes are not my strong point. At all. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Hmm... I don't really have a preference. Romance, humor and drama are my specialties, I believe; though I have also written the genres family, friendship and hurt/comfort. Really, as long as the story is a fanfiction for a series I've read, I don't particularly care what the genre is. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
While I don't have much of a preference for what type of genre I beta-read, I'd prefer not to do horror. I just can't see myself writing anything with horror. |
