Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta reader I consider myself very honest. This means I will give my critiques and compliments openly. If you cannot handle criticism, I am not the beta for you. My commentary is in depth and may go so far as to discuss the use of a word which (while technically correct) doesn't "feel" right. Please consider if this is what you're looking for before contacting me.

I expect that my writers know basic sentence structure. Grammatical errors are to be expected, but BASIC use should be well understood. I expect my writers to know how to use spell check. Using the wrong word, spelled correctly, is going to happen. However, using a train wreck of a misspelled word is going to be frowned upon. If your spell check doesn't know what word you're looking for, misspellings should be marked with a (SP?). I can look it up for you- just flag it for me. I expect my writers to have a good working knowledge of the English language. I do not have time to re-write something in broken English. I am sorry if this sounds harsh, but I am not adept at helping writers improve when I am given a task which challenges me to bring them up to baseline standards.

Now that you probably think I'm really mean (I'm a marshmallow at heart, promise)... here is the rest of my profile.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Characterization in all its nuances. Whether you are building an original character or putting canon characters in crazy situations, I am all about the inner workings of their minds. I play devil's advocate a lot and will tell you straight out if I think the characters are acting OOC. Mary Sues will be shot on sight.

Dialog is my bread and butter. I pride myself on believable conversations and insuring that the wording reflects the character speaking. Not all characters talk the same way!

Narrative/Plot is my last strength. I like to offer possible directions for writers who are stumped about where their story should go. It is helpful when writers block shows up or just won't let go. However, I do NOT offer narrative advice to writers who have a clear idea where they're headed. The only time I speak up is if the actions from point A to point B do not reflect the accurate actions of the characters involved (which goes back to OOCs).

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Grammar. I can do it and I can spot glaring errors, but generally speaking this is not where I like to spend my time.

Action and description. I know when I read something good and I see when something doesn't "flow". I can spot telling and not showing- but if it is really bad, I'm not terribly adept at bringing out its finer qualities. However, with good bones, I can aid you in making good description and action great.

Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
All series, all books, all genres. I like yaoi, I don't mind yuri. Graphic scenes are excellent for exercising the writing senses and I enjoy reading/critiquing them. If I am not familiar with a series/book/movie, I can research and get up to speed with ease. My favorite series are Kuroshitsuji, White Cross, Escaflowne, Last Exile, Code Geass, etc etc.
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
The only genre I don't particularly enjoy is crack humor. i haven't ever written it and I'm not sure I completely "get it". So if that is your genre of choice, I may not be the beta for you.
