Practicalities first--Docx is my preferred method of exchanging documents. I have no official beta-reading experience, but as I read fanfictions I tend to edit in my head anyway. I'd like the chance to actually express my editing ideas more fully than can be accomplished through a simple review. I'm very picky about grammar and spelling, but don't worry about fixing that before you pass your work to me; I must confess, I actually enjoy proofreading. Just don't be surprised/offended if I fix a lot of grammar issues. Some of my ideas come in "maybe" form, meaning, this is one way of fixing the problem, but there may be other better ways I haven't figured out yet. As for my expectations, I would prefer it if my ideas were at least considered; there's no point in getting a beta-reader if you ignore their advice. But at the same time I think authors should carefully evaluate advice before taking it to heart, and any questions about editing should be brought up and discussed rather than ignored outright or implemented without understanding the reasoning behind them.

Like I said, grammar is one of my greatest strengths. I tend to notice awkward sentence structures and forced dialogue.

I can have trouble coming up with concrete replacements for weak aspects of a story, especially characterization aspects; I'm better at identifying the problem and figuring out how it needs to be fixed than actually fixing it. Then again, that's really the author's job anyway, as I'm not the one writing the story.

I like humor, action, romance... any combination of the three...

I'm not a huge fan of predominantly psychological stories with troubled main characters. I also don't want to read explicit sex scenes. I find them unnecessary and generally off-topic. I also dislike "high school drama" stories, whether or not they take place in an actual high school.
