Reviews for The Wild Card
Hello simply 22 chapter 1 . 10/30/2019
This story was very refreshing for me since it’s really hard to find great stories on here when I feel like I’ve read every Narusasu there is. This was just amazing but in my opinion I did not want Naruto to have a kid I don’t know why but I was not happy about that... but that’s just my opinion, other than that the story was amazing, good work ,I wish I could write this well!

Welll... You say you're going to rewrite this, so I'm going to be honest about what I thought of the fic. No shade, just something to think about with the rewrite so you don't repeat some of the previous mistakes. So, being completely honest, I didn't like the fic.

In my opinion, there were problems right from the get-go. The premise of the fic is that Sasuke, as a top sports agent, is asked to manage Naruto, a screw-up of a young quarterback who really needs Sasuke's guidance. Naruto parties a bit too much, has easily avoidable run-ins with the law, and has out of control spending habits. So then, if that's how the fic starts off, why does it immediately turn into Naruto helping Sasuke with his problems instead? Sasuke never does a thing to help Naruto in return, while Naruto literally becomes Sasuke's life-coach and armchair psychiatrist (thanks to his degree in psychology).

This begs the question, why does a screw-up like Naruto feel he's qualified to be telling Sasuke he's living his life all wrong? What about Naruto's insane spending habits? His past drug addiction? NONE of these issues are ever addressed. The fic acts like that's all in the past, and yet, one of the very first things that happens between Sasuke and Naruto is that Sasuke has to bail him out of jail. It's not in the past; otherwise, Kakashi wouldn't have bothered to hire Sasuke in the first place. Yet we end the fic not knowing if Naruto has learned how to manage his money. If Naruto is going to be giving anyone advice, he needs to have his own shit together first. Period. End of story.

And really, are Sasuke's "problems" that bad? Professionally, he's got his shit together. Compared to Naruto, he's actually a functioning adult. Yes, Sasuke has buried himself in work, but he's recently broken up with a guy he'd been with for years, and who he planned to marry. Why isn't Sasuke allowed to go through the grieving process? If he needs to distract himself using work, then so be it. Furthermore, Naruto also acts like Sasuke is too stiff and not daring enough, that he needs to learn how to live a little, but I would strongly dispute that. He's not a thrill-seeker like Naruto, but he went and hooked up with Neji when the Hyuugas are Fugaku's biggest rivals. Not only that, but he went public with their relationship and walked away from his family when Fugaku gave him grief. If all of that isn't daring and courageous, I don't know what is.

Overall, I find the dynamic between Sasuke and Naruto to be deeply troubling. Almost from the moment they meet, Naruto decides that Sasuke needs "fixing," and he immediately begins working on changing Sasuke by actively enlisting the help of Sasuke's personal assistant. That's going way out of his lane to help a person he doesn't even know. Initially, I found absolutely no reason for Naruto to take such an interest in Sasuke. Who says Sasuke needs help and that Naruto needs to be the one to help him? And why does Naruto care so much about Sasuke if he thinks Sasuke needs to change? Doesn't that mean he things Sasuke isn't good enough the way he is? Naruto wants to remake Sasuke into what he considers a fun-loving person, which isn't necessarily everyone else's definition of a fun-loving person.

(Also, it really bugs me that Naruto's method of loosening Sasuke up is to get him to miss work. When you consider what Sasuke's job is, that's really fucked up. Being an agent isn't a regular 9 to 5 job. He has to be with the people he represents during games, public appearances, contract negotiations, and all sorts of other things that don't happen during normal works hours. Him missing work because of Naruto means some other athlete isn't getting the proper representation he or she deserves. No, the other people at the office can't take care of it for him.)

The mystery of why free-spirited Naruto would want stiff, boring, workaholic Sasuke is finally solved when we meet Gaara and hear about Naruto's past. Up until that point, all Naruto said about Sasuke is that he likes a "challenge." What that actually means is that Naruto is only attracted to troubled people he can white knight for. Before getting involved with Sasuke, Naruto put Gaara through the same regiment of exciting adventures. And before Gaara was Ino, a drug addict that got gang raped because of her addiction. What Ino, Gaara, and Sasuke all have in common is that they're all "troubled" people that Naruto helped fix. There's no other way to look at Naruto except that he has a hero complex and and a fetish for mental and emotional difficulties. Other than his looks, Sasuke has nothing else to offer Naruto; he's a boring workaholic and they have absolutely nothing in common. Naruto wouldn't have needed to "change" Sasuke if they had things in common. In reality, Sasuke's only appeal is that he's (quoting from the story) a "challenge" and "troubled."

I just find Naruto's attitude toward changing Sasuke and the fact that he only ever dates screwed up people to be so gross and just couldn't get excited about this couple as I was reading the fic.

I'm down for that epi-epilogue!
You know, it's rare for an author to put a wedding scene at the end of a story because sometimes it really doesn't work but omagosh yes
I loved EVERY SINGLE PAGE OF THIS STORY! It was truly a wild ride to join and experience. Thank you so much for writing this!

Woaahh that time skip tho
The ending felt very chaotic but in a family type way, what with all the mentioning of children and getting married and such. I am honestly taken back by how far their relationship went and how much their characters and personalities developed

I love this chapter so much. It feels like everything is coming together in a way but I am just slightly confused... So they had some steamy sex, then Naruto told Sasuke about his stuff... Did they drive separately after that to their respective homes? Or was there a time lapse? And then Sasuke decided to comfort naruto? Sorry for my confusion, I probably didn't read correctly Heheh
FreeBird101 chapter 16 . 2/19/2019
