The death of Alaric in the show was already very sad and the speech Damon gave in "Memorial" was soo heartbreaking... every time I see those episodes I cry, even when I just think about it I get tears in my eyes... those two episods show how Damon did and always will care about Ric. It's just so sad Damon lost his only good friend 'cause of Elena and one of her stupid decision (no offense)!
But at least in this story they happily together :) both dead but togther! *sniff* *sigh* *sniff* :')

Truth be told this is a happy story. Everything worked out for the lovers, as much as everyone else will miss them, they can move on. Love like that is binding, and impossible to move on from. This is a happy ending as much as any other. Happiness comes in many forms, but it never truly ends. Now Damon and Ric can be together forever. That is true happiness in my eyes. Very nicely written.
