I love how Kaidan is there for her after waking from that nightmare. I could feel his pain and despair when he hears that she was still alive when she got spaced. There is so much regret that he didn't stay and help her, but she is right, he would've died then as well.

And they cleared the air about Horizon, another important thing.

I like that Zi doesn't feel alone anymore at the end, that she has new hope. That was a lovely ending.

My goodness, James ... I felt like whacking him upside his head here. How many more hints does it take?!

The evening out a Purgatory was certainly one for Kaidan to remember. First having 'The Talk' with Garrus, which was both painful and funny at the same time, and then dancing with Zi and sharing their first kiss in three years. And what for a kiss that was!

The following sex is almost cathartic, even if they both had to be pretty inebriated for it to happen. It was hot and intense, and incredibly sexy. I especially love the feeling she has of coming home during their love-making.

You capture the intensity of battle so well, I feel as if I'm right there with them. Kaidan's wish to prove himself is almost overpowering, especially after he felt excluded when Shepard and Garrus discussed the tactics for the attack. I love how he compares her former fighting style to that now, of course Kaidan notices the difference, and I love the button pushing reference to loosen the tension.

And then we have Garrus taking a hit in order to save Zi and getting badly wounded. Her worry for him is unmistakeable, and I can understand Kaidan's sinking feeling in his gut when he sees those little precious moments passing between the other two. He knows it has a deeper meaning and of course he wonders if Zi's worry is just that for a very good friend or for someone who means more to her.

I like how you paint Shepard's desperation to get away from Kaidan once they are aboard. She still feels drawn to Kaidan, and when she rereads the letter Kaidan sent after Horizon to refuel her anger you know how hard she is trying to push him away.

Kaidan's reaction to seeing Garrus almost made me laugh, especially considering how unaffected Garrus seemed. It certainly was an awkward moment playing in Kaidan's head and I love his "No. You're not going to think about it!" when his mind started revolving around Zi's and Garrus's relationship.

I love what you did with the in-game dialogue here.

You made so much more of it by showing us Kaidan's emotions. The insecurity he must have felt about asking to rejoin the Normandy, the tension in him after the stand-off during the coup, his regret about his harsh words on Horizon, his fear of rejection.

I can feel the tension leave him the moment Shepard accepts his offer and flashes him that small smile; it gives him hope.

Ooohhh, you're first foray into the fandom! I am intrigued to see how you handled it all at the beginning and shall be reading all of this!

I can easily imagine Kaidan being overwhelmed when he finds out she remembers everything about dying and the attack on the Normandy. He's already carrying guilt and then to find that out, it would be really hard for him to move past.

I'm glad they talked and cleared the air, and that Shepard had the chance to get everything off her chest.

I really believe that unless she has something to actually fight for, there's a chance she might not be fighting quite as hard as she could. I really enjoyed how you captured that slightly at the end, there's a new hope and another reason to fight for the future.

I love this chapter, not only because they finally get back together, but the entire horrible awkwardness of it.

Vega. Oh lordie. Vega. Could not put his foot in it anymore if he tried. I wanted to gag him. Then having THE talk with Garrus. The entire thing was both funny and painful... Like watching a train wreck happening.

I'm glad they got together in the end, the alcohol made them both more honest somethings would be easier.

Another great chapter. The button pushing thing along the story line added a humorous twist to a chapter that turned serious. The possibility that Garrus sacrificing himself might bring the turian and Shepard back together is worrying for Kaidan. That intimate moment between the two that he was left out on. Hopefully it's not too late for him.

Poor Sloan, so brave in some ways, so scared in others. I like how she goes back to that damn Horizon letter when she needs to refuel her anger and hurt. It was a terrible letter and a good way for her to keep her guard up.

I also like Kaidan's, don't think about it when it comes to Garrus. Some images are well left alone...

These two, so in love with each other, so hurt, but just soooo damn stubborn!

Like all your writing, I really enjoyed this. Both their insecurities shine through in your writing. I've read hundreds of different versions of these scenes and never grow tired of it.

One line sticks with me most, and that's Kaidan realizing he does a great job of pushing someone he wants away. Look forward to reading how this one progresses!

I love Shepard's turmoil in this chapter. That makes me sound like a jerk, I know, but her struggle with her feelings and how desperately she wants to hold on to her anger is so human and real I love tat you gave it to us. Kaidan's uncertainty is clear and well written. From finding a spot for himself, to his conversation with Chakwas, and his non confrontational meeting with Garrus I showed just how distant he has been. I love that he started to consider the... Physics of Shepard's relationship with Garrus and then stopped himself. Anytime you see the person your ex was with after you, you have that moment when you can't help but picture them together. In this instant he can't, and he doesn't want to. It made me chuckle and I loved it.
