im new to the fandom, fresh out of season 1 and i must say, I have become a big fan of MASH. I love this first chapter. I think Mary's thoughts about who and what Bash is are beautifully put into words that you cant help but believe her. keep it up!

Very detailed, and now I'm craving apple pie. ;) I don't know if this is what you were going for, but I felt like all your attention to detail in the descriptions of Mary's cooking and overall role as a housewife, illustrated how oppressive that life and the 1950s were. And Francis' praise of her, oh man, such proprietary pride he takes in showing her off and bragging about her - it really rubs me the wrong way. I get the sense he's taking credit for her accomplishments like those jerks who treat their wives like objects or status symbols whose beauty/talents/skills reflect well on *them*. She's just there to satisfy his needs and make him look good and make other men envy him, right? Ugh. Just...ugh. Also, complimenting her like that is basically a way of expressing his expectations, like he's putting pressure on her to be the perfect wife and keep living up to an unrealistic ideal instead of really seeing and loving her as a person with flaws. Poor Mary! But she's eyeing Bash, so she can't be all that happy with Francis, no matter how picture-perfect their marriage may look on the surface. And Francis probably wants Bash to keep Mary company while he's away on business so he doesn't have to feel guilty about staying away longer and cheating on her while he's on the road, 'cause let's be real, it's Francis. He's totally got a girlfriend on the side. :P I also like how you hinted that Bash is probably actually Francis' brother. And of course Henry doesn't treat him fairly. Poor Bash! I wish he'd just get away from them both, cut 'em out of his life, stop letting them treat him like a servant or someone who's not their equal (when he's far superior!) who they expect to be grateful to them for "accepting" him at all. DAMN YOU FRANCIS AND HENRY. FREE BASH AND MARY! RUN, MASH, RUN! BE WILD AND FREEEEEEEEE! *sob* So yeah, good job with the fic, and hinting at the darker side of their seemingly idyllic life! You made me think, and feel stuff. ;)

Your new story was very good! "unanticipated, but completely expected at the same time." reminds me of "how very unexpected" ...probably intentional on your part :) takin' us back to the good old days... le sigh! and so much face touching! it's fine that like you said it's a bit vague and missing some details... I thought that was just your writing style! Haha :) a little mystery is a good thing.

well now I think I need to re-read all your other oneshots and rewatch all my favorite Mash scenes and go down that rabbit hole again. No maybe I'd better not... that way lies madness. haha stupid show i'll never understand why they sunk our ship...and came right out and said it was never happening. Maybe if Reign was on a normal network that actually cares about ratings instead of never cancelling anything... maybe then they wouldn't have tossed away Mash fans so easily. Bah!

Wow it's been ten thousand years since a Mash fic was updated! Pretty cool to see your name at the top of the Reign section again. I would also like to see your name in the opening credits of the show instead of Laurie McCarthy's. Let me know if that happens and then I'll watch again, eh? So anyway...thanks for updating and who can blame you for drawing inspiration from your own life, as writers often do. It's not like the show's doing much to inspire Mash shippers, right? Don't worry, your characters were pretty recognizably Mash-y in a modern AU sort of way. Hey, the characters aren't really recognizable in canon anymore from what I've heard and the gifs I've seen (Mary's gleefully preparing to start a war to take England? Okaaaaay. I liked her better when she wasn't like Catherine or Henry.) Btw, I liked your description of Mash dancing. Soooo much better than gifs I've seen of the totally stiff and not-at-all-romantic dance they had in season 3. Feels like Laurie McCarthy's trolling us, like she knows we were wishing and waiting for them to dance together ever since he watched her dance so freely and joyfully in the Pilot. So naturally LM makes their dance the opposite of free and joyful. Also NO EYE CONTACT ALLOWED because the way they looked at each other in that Pilot scene (and the way Bash looked at her in general) was just too beautiful and god forbid people start shipping Mash again. Arrgh. Sorry for ranting. Thanks again for the update. An angsty AU actually makes me happy, how sad is that? ;) At least Mash loved each other, here. And danced a romantic dance, with feelings and stuff.
