Great story

First, I must say that I love AU:s. If done well, they can be a fun and exciting way of re-exploring characters we already know and love. It has to be done with a little bit of delicacy though, so you keep the essence that we are looking for. I think you nailed it.
I like this more assertive Maura. She sees something interesting and doesn't hold back from seeking contact. She's sneaky but nice. Jane is also clear about what she likes, and the gender angst is minimal. Instead, there is the regular Jane-is-an-oaf angst that we actually like, and it is handled well.

This is the first time I have written THAT in a review.

Normally, I find jealousy a cold shower. It's an instant mood killer and I was worried when Jane started reacting to the mysterious intruder in Maura's life, but it passed quickly and then things were tracking nicely until the bloodletting. The pressuring part is one of two things I actually flinch a little from. It's totally in character, but it's still such a dick move. Then everything is fine until we come to the real cold shower. Angela.
You had to go there, didn't you? In the worst possible way, too. The recovery from that is brilliant so I forgive you, but ghod that was a mood crash.

On the whole, a brilliant story. It could have been improved by Jane hurling Angela through a window, but we'll let that slide for now. On the whole, I enjoyed this a lot and I will be back for more.
