Interesting contrast with the carriage before...and the reason for the whistle was a nice touch:-)

This works very well, and needed to move steadily to establish the scene and situation. Logically thought through, and an insight into reaction under stress.

Reading this reminds me-again-why John is awesome. Thanks a million for this story. And for the one from Sherlock's POV too.

John is so masterful...love his observations of Sherlock, by the way-rarely see THAT lol!

Thank you, thank you for another chapter in this lovely story! This was beautifully done. i especially liked the flashback in which the two discuss how their friendship began. I have always felt that John's calling Sherlock an idiot was of monumental importance to their relationship, and you explored that so well.

Such a beautiful ending ("a brother to welcome me home")-but then that chilling realization that happiness cannot last. Of course it can't-this is the "Sherlock" universe, and we can't have nice things here!

I wonder if you could do a chapter exploring what poor Mary was going through as she waited for word?

This is nicely described. One can feel John's frustration with the limited supplies at hand, but also his self-confidence in dealing with an impossibly difficult situation. I'm enjoying this very much!
