One of the biggest lies a parent can tell their children is the one of perfection. It's expectations and demands are an impossible weight to bear where the child constantly evaluates their self worth to success and failure. You illustrated this truth well.

That was so heartwarming. I have often felt that his family was a hard act for Alan to follow. How do you make people proud who have done it all before? Awesome!

Nicely done! I was both sympathetic and amused. It's tough to be in any position in a competitive family. And yeah, parents (and siblings) can get in the habit, unintentionally, of forgetting to tell people when they do something right, so Alan, with his more volatile personality, would probably have more of a reaction to that. Nice stuff.

I like the idea that, even though they are all so close, they still can manage to keep secrets from each other (everybody's screw ups). With that, I liked that John's skills that put him so far in the forefront publicly of IR are something he can use with the family without it having to be about something tragic or awful. I like the quiet moments. And secrets. This was the perfect read for today.

I loved this story. You have a great way of getting to the heart of your characters and really enjoy your take on Alan. I think there is merit in the idea that the pressure of following the others and the family focus on setting a good example and enforcing discipline could intensify Alan's personality, temperament and therefore his insecurity.

Please please please please PLEASE make a follow up to this. I wanna know what happens when they come to his graduation and Scott realizes Alan knows his embarrassing story.

Despite the fact that this must be movie verse if Alan is still at College when IR is operational, I thought this was very good. With this and your 'Fugue' (one of my all-time favourites) you show that you understand Alan so well.
I spotted a couple of small errors but I'll put those in a separate PM.
Can we have some more from you please - preferably tv-verse?
