Guest chapter 2 . 12/31/2019
Sorry if this sounds rude, just wanted to point this out to some of your readers. *cough* To clear things up, the people who warned this author about copyright and the websites rules are not lying. These works are truly in the wrong as they are reproducing, in whole or in part, the copyrighted work which they do not have permission to do. Fair use cannot be applied here, and while a disclaimer is present, that does not mean you aren't stealing. It only proves to the court, if this were to be taken in front of one, that you have a guilty conscience and knew what you were doing was wrong. A profit isn't required to be found guilty of infringement.

Now let's look at what some of you are saying is allowed, when in reality it isn't. This is taken from this site's TOS. Section 6: User Submissions and Conduct if you guys are curious: D. In connection with User Submissions, you further agree that you will not submit material that is copyrighted, protected by trade secret or otherwise subject to third party proprietary rights, including privacy and publicity rights, unless you are the owner of such rights or have permission from their rightful owner and the necessary consents from any individuals whose personally identifiable information is contained in such material to post the material and to grant all of the license rights granted herein.

F. does not endorse any User Submission or any opinion, recommendation, or advice expressed therein, and expressly disclaims any and all liability in connection with User Submissions. " does not permit copyright infringing activities and infringement of intellectual property rights on its Website, and will remove all Content and User Submissions if properly notified that such Content or User Submission infringes on another's intellectual property rights or contravenes any applicable privacy legislation." reserves the right to remove Content and User Submissions without prior notice.

This is within the Rules & Guidelines:
Actions not allowed:
3. Copying from a previously published work (including musical lyrics) not in the public domain.
(Public domain meaning it is no longer protected by copyright law)
And this one:
Entries not allowed:
3. MST: comments in between the flow of a copied story.

And there is more. Someone inquired to FFN admins about how much copyright content could be used, and here is their response: "Re: [#51766] Query regarding novelizations and quotation of copyrighted dialogue in fanfiction
Support 8/01/13
To: horustheavenger
To be safe, we do not allow any inclusion of copyrighted passages within fanfictions.
Please help us spread the word.
Zack " - www fanfiction net /topic/145811/106013912/1/CI-and-You-A-Guide-to-Understanding-Copy-Infringement

So, as you guys can see this site does not allow what you are trying to proclaim they allow. And neither does any other site.

This is AO3's stance regarding works like these: Reproductions of entire copyrighted works—whether songs, poems, transcripts, or other material—are not allowed without the consent of the copyright owner. - TOS: IV Content and Abuse Policies: D. Copyright and Trademark

Wattpad's stance: We do not allow any copyright infringement or pirated material on the platform and will remove any works that we discover to have been published illegally. While some users may not be aware of copyright law, we do our best to educate and inform our community while building an engaging audience for all writers. - Wattpad Help Center: Copyright FAQ

Don’t break the law. Don’t take any action that infringes or violates other people’s rights, violates the law, or breaches any contract or legal duty you have toward anyone. Wattpad TOS: What You Should and Shouldn't Do section

Tumblr: Copyright or Trademark Infringement. Respect the copyrights and trademarks of others. If you aren't allowed to use someone else's copyrighted or trademarked work (either by license or by legal exceptions and limitations such as fair use), don't post it. - Tumblr Content Guidelines

Tumblr may immediately terminate or suspend Accounts that have been flagged for repeat copyright infringement. - Tumblr TOS 16. Termination

And it isn't just those website's that have rules against this. All site's do, if you guys bothered to read them before agreeing you'd know this. Always read the TOS and site rules before agreeing. And if you don't believe me that all sites have rules against copyright infringement, find their TOS, hit ctrl plus F, and search for copyright. Easiest way to find it in case you don't want to read through all the text.

Now, I'll bet someone will try to argue that this is still allowed, that no one will do anything, other works have gotten away with it, you can't get in trouble unless their is profit, etc.

Here is what the FBI says, and this goes for ALL copyrighted works. I'm sure all of you have seen this, most notably in movies: "The unauthorized reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal." Note what these sort of works do, reproduce and distribute without permission of copyright holders. " Criminal infringement without monetary gain" Meaning a profit isn't required to be found guilty of this crime, as stated by others. " is investigated by the FBI and is punishable up to 5 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000."

Now, unless the copyright holders get mad enough to press charges, you could spend up to 5 years in prison for copyright infringement here in the US. It may be more or less in other countries. But other countries are cracking down on copyright laws... But normally the copyright holders go with a C&D (Cease and Desist) order, unless that gets ignored and they get tired of you guys reposting it, then it could go into the sue territory, or worse. However, the FBI doesn't really need the copyright holders permission to investigate a case of infringement. They could investigate then notify the holders.

"These works don't hurt anyone"- Wrong. They do, and this is why. Has anyone ever heard of what happened with Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer? No, well what happened was was that fans like you who think they can reproduce and distribute a copyrighted work online did so without little to no consideration. Here's her story: stepheniemeyer dot com / midnightsun dot html : "As the author of the Twilight Saga, I control the copyright and it is up to the owner of the copyright to decide when the books should be made public; this is the same for musicians and filmmakers. Just because someone buys a book or movie or song, or gets a download off the Internet, doesn't mean that they own the right to reproduce and distribute it. Unfortunately, with the Internet, it is easy for people to obtain and share items that do not legally belong to them. No matter how this is done, it is still dishonest. This has been a very upsetting experience for me, but I hope it will at least leave my fans with a better understanding of copyright and the importance of artistic control."

The person committing a crime does not have to earn anything from the action for the victim to be negatively affected.

"It's Fair Use" "You have a disclaimer". Fair use is not a blanket authority to do whatever the hell you want. Before you go on shouting about it, you must understand it first. Here is a video that gives a simple explanation over fair use: www dot youtube dot com /yt/ copyright / fair-use dot html Now onto why disclaimers won't protect you. Simply stating whence the material came from does not grant permission to someone to post a copyrighted work. Giving credit does not change whether a work infringes on copyright or not. Because, giving credit to the original content creator is not the issue with copyright infringement in the first place. The issue with CI is violating the original content creator's copyright, that is, unauthorized reproduction and distribution of the work upon which the author relies on for their livelihood. Basically, the disclaimer becomes a red neon beacon that says "I know what I am doing is wrong, but don't care and am doing it anyway" in these cases.

No one will do anything argument. Hahah, just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Check the cases posted here out: www dot fanfiction dot net /topic/ 145811 /106013912/ 1 / CI-and-You-A-Guide-to-Understanding-Copy-Infringement

And the admins do remove these sorts of works, along with any other rule and TOS violation, once they get around to it. Especially if they receive a DMCA take down notice from copyright holders (if they were notified. Some people do notify them of cases like this).

FFN won't get sued argument.- No one remembers what happened to Youtube back in 2014? There is another case of a site in trouble for infringement where anyone who reviewed the infringing material could also be found liable for encouraging the infringement. So yes, it is very possible for FFN, or any other site, to be sued over copyright infringement. "

There is another part that goes hand in hand with this, and that is piracy. These sort of works take money from those who worked on and created the work. Did you know piracy costs filmmakers nearly over 200 billion $ a year, and it's not just them? Yes, all those reacting fics are contributing to that loss of revenue. Meaning it's stealing money from people whose livelihood depends on the money that copyrighted work makes. Whose going to pay when you can get it free? They may appear small, but contribute to a major problem regardless. And the FBI do investigate all forms. Check out the IPRcenter website (IPRcenter dot com. This is linked in FBI warnings about piracy.). not

So, guys, it you respect the copyright holders don't violate their rights with works like this. Get informed, and help stop this horrible crime. Report infringement and piracy when you see it, inform the copyright holders if you got to. Copyright Infringement is not a victimless crime.
Czechm8 chapter 54 . 12/30/2019
I look forward to reading the next saga, as I have all 54 chapters. Admittedly this will be my first review, but I faved you as an author. One of the funniest parts in there was at the beginning where Tommy was introduced as “slut.”
Perhaps the success was due to the fact that you had comments from the peanut gallery. What do you think made it so successful? If it’s in an AN at the bottom of a chapter, let me know. Let me know either way.
TheAssassinGmer chapter 24 . 9/16/2019
Malcolm wonders who trained Oliver to fight... how about looking to the crazy man in the room
Dark-angel0301 chapter 6 . 8/9/2019
I love the comments from Slade and Malcolm. It's funny how they always judge his firm and skills and stuff, while the others are like WTF?!
Flurkin chapter 26 . 7/30/2019
For the record, as someone who is defiantly considered younger and more on the children side than the adults, I DO know what a VCR is, and I personally feel slightly insulted, but then I remember that I once informed my class that the sun is a star, and nobody believed me.
Guest chapter 1 . 5/21/2019
Okay good concept but I cannot get behind redeeming Malcolm Merlyn. Every time his names comes up all I see is a cold heartless monster. I do love these types of stories though! Regardless I think trying to redeem Malcolm Merlyn is like trying to redeem Timothy McVeigh. Otherwise you have a great thing going on here!
The Shroud chapter 54 . 4/15/2019
I'm almost ENTIRELY certain the cover image for this changed! Are you coming back? I loved this story, and its sequel, and I'm still hopeful for anything from you. Best of luck to you.
