I think this was a nice change of pace. I enjoyed seeing them in a different setting and I liked Meddling Frost a lot. "Subtle staring" is a good concept, I know exactly what that looks like. :-)
Jane going nuts over the sentence is great.
Strangely, I think it's great that it is a normal love story where two mildly awkward people meet and enjoy each others' company. No grand drama, no mysterious parents, no _opera_. That's fun too, but sometimes small-scale and subtle works just fine. I think it worked just fine here.
