A truly "magnificent" moment!...

There was a deleted scene that revealed the necklace was left behind by (or was intended for) Thranduil's wife.
The movie didn't do so well with character develpment.

Oh so wonderfully written. Gosh it makes me appreciate in characer fics so much more. I went a little out of character when I wrote thranduil and now I'm starting to regret it. Thank you for the wonderful closure. The Botfa had a crap ending.

You were definitely right in thinking that a scene like this was missing from the movie! I'm wondering a little if Bilbo knew that Thranduil wanted these specific gems and whether he took them from the horde before or after the battle/his exile.

I think this story really fits in perfectly, with the characters true to how they were depicted in the movie (I have to admit, it's been too long since I read the book!). It was a good choice to have Thranduil show some emotion, namely what he can't help, but still retain his majesty and aloof manner, for lack of a better word.

Finally ! Someone made it happen ! I went to see the movie with two friends of mine and we were all very emotional about that necklace thing since DoS, and we were hoping so much for that Bilbo/Thranduil scene to happen since it's in the book and then at the end of Botfa, nothing... I hope they'll put more scenes like this one you wrote, and the funerals of the dwarves (Thranduil giving Orcrist back to Thorin by puting it in his grave, for Valar's sake ! - and giving Fili some sort of respect because they ruined his death scene at such a point, I went half crazy when I saw that... He's supposed to die fighting, saving his uncle's life, PJ please you can do better than that !)... Instead I fear we'll get some MORE Kiliel scenes... Like we havn't had too much of that already !

So... Yeah, really happy about your OS, in fact all your post-Botfa OSs are really great ! Mirkwood Family is the best and we definitely need more stories about them :-D

If they don't include a scene as good as this in the extended version I really will write Mr. Jackson a scathing letter. This has always been my favorite part in the book.

I haven't seen the movie yet, we were planning on it today, but my uncle had to pick today to come up to Milbank, and he's spending the night here so there goes todays chance! Seriously, yesterday my Dad said we would see it today and today this happens and he says we'll see it tomorrow! #annoyed Anyways the story was quite interesting! Although in my opinion, the movie will be entirely taken over by that Kauriel (Kili and Tauriel) he even dies saving her! He's supposed to die protecting Thorin! Well that's quite enough I think!
