CatGen chapter 4 . 5/6/2015 Hey, Grumpycat! That was a wonderful chapter, and a fulfilling happy conclusion! (Sorry, hope that isn't spoiling.) You convey emotions so well, with so much depth and dimension, the softness and the sweetness, the urgency and suspense, all miraculously without getting too heavy and mawkish. I especially loved the description about their eyes at a certain point, after an important development. I'm sure you know where I mean. Beautiful metaphors. Good that you're going back to proof-read a bit. There were definitely a few typos, which weren't significant enough to take anything away from your otherwise, wonderfully flowing prose. I also want to correct an opinion I gave for the last chapter, and am doing it here since I can't go back and re-post it there. I had said something to the effect that as an accomplished woman, Maura should not be so insecure, and worried about how Jane feels, what Angela's note means, or something to that effect. To correct that: I do understand that even with all her other strengths, Maura's character has a history of lonliness, and little experience with friendships, and relationships. In addition to that, just because someone is highly accomplished in certain areas of their life, doesn't make them invulnerable to emotional hurt. Of course not! So, once again, great job! Thanks for writing this story! |

CatGen chapter 3 . 4/22/2015 Another good chapter of Maura's intricate introspection. You're very good at conveying the subtleties, and the intricate, complicated feelings. It's just that the tone of it echos a too much the way things had been drifting, and peaked toward middle of Season 5: Maura's identity has been sublimated to Jane's, and her environment. It's more of Maura being a bit too dependent on Jane, Jane's family, and BPD for who she is in this world. I understand the heartache of what she's been through, and how she feels about Jane. But I guess I saw in this chapter too much of that diminishing Maura who has too little sense of self; too little pride in her own background, and people. Even after we saw Constance, risk her life to save Maura, (the hit & run incident), and Maura being distraught at the possibility Constance could die from her injuries, I guess I find it irksome that she would see Angela as the 'be all and end all' where good mothers are concerned. I think for Maura's character it bordered on pathetic that she's second-guessing what Angela meant in the note. Maura is grown and accomplished woman. Although Angela's viewpoint may have some value, it sounded (almost) as though Maura felt she should be taking her cue from Jane's mother's comments in a quickly scribbled note. I guess another way of putting this would be: now that Jane is back safely, perhaps Maura can move forward with more of a sense of the great value she's bringing to the table, rather than what she desperately hopes Jane is bringing. |
