This was so beautiful! I adore it. One of my favourite fanfictions ever!

I loved it all. Him finding her during the attack scene (really wish they'd showed them down there on film, but at least they were together following Katniss back up the steps, CLEARLY implying that they had looked for & found each other...! ;)...the memories of Cinna (figured he was a good friend to her even though we didn't get to know him as well-*sniff*)...her worrying about Peeta but trying desperately to be hopeful about everything...them sleeping together so sweetly...just, omg! I'm certainly praying for lots of Hayffie in Pt. 2, and the Odair wedding (we can't skip that, right?) would be a prime opportunity for some. I'd love for him to assure her that not only does she look pretty, she *is beautiful.* x'-3
Oh, and I may or may not have definitely started singing "For the First Time in Forever" when I saw that line. xD

Ahhh, but they are my new OTP. I ship a lot of 'em, honestly, but very few couples have ever given me this many intense feels! It's so weird. o.o But it's also just...so...perfect. Adorable, funny, sweet, hot...truly, they are such interesting and complex people. Full of surprises. Neither is what they appear to be. And for corn's sake, they *need* one another! They don't seem to really have anybody else...not in the same way. ;; All the bickering and driving each other up the wall-you KNOW it just meant that they CARE! ;-} And oh yes, I am SO down with her having had a crush on him, and therefore maybe even feeling a little envious of Maysilee...idolizing him, wishing she could be with him, and prove herself...yeah. It totally fits.

I've only read half of "The Hunger Games" and watched the movies. These two as an unlikely, but real pair is nice. I really like the backstory you gave Effie and how her and Haymitch's relationship subtly evolved over the years. Effie's crush and romanticizing of the games seems very plausible the way you described it.

The momentary lapse of judgment on Effie's part was a brilliant climax. I don't really like drunk sex scenes because of the sketchiness of consent, but even moreso I loved Effie's reasoning. She does understand some things about human nature and how they're not meant to be in that moment. It's shown so well there. Her society really affected how she was brought up. The little moment at the end was masterfully written.

There's a few writing mistakes, which I'm not sure if they're actually mistakes, but for example: "'I got Sponsors last year, and we hardly a prayer'" when Haymitch was drunk. I'm not sure if that's just drunk dialogue because the rest of his talking while drunk isn't bad.
