This is just brilliantly written - their awkward, hesitant affection, Erik's doubts, Christine's determination to protect her husband and help him forget his tragic past... Everything builds up into a picture of a very unconventional yet loving marriage, with neither of them really understanding their relationship yet willing to commit themselves to it.
Christine's health is a bit worrying though. Will you be continuing this? It would be good to find out why the bleeding happened and if she will be ok.

One thing I kept thinking while reading this story is that you've evolved so much as an author. This might be the best of your works yet. Maybe not plot-wise as there are few actual happenings in the story, but definitely quality-wise.
The subtlety, the nuances, the little things you capture while lost in your imagination without actually experiencing them... And you've managed to relay them to the reader, which is no an easy feat with such things. That simply blows my mind!
While your story doesn't grip the reader's attention and have them racing along with the unfolding of events, it submerges us whole into its atmosphere so we're feeling what they're feeling, we're living their feeling through them.
