You lured me with a lovely story about the couple and their boisterous nieces and nephews, and then did this to me? I'm in tears. I'm sure that's how it happened, but could you not rip my heart in two?

I loved the happiness when she was with her nieces and nephew, and the hint of bitterness and regret there. It was very human. I found it really touching when Elphinstone followed her into the kitchen, understanding her body language as much as what she said.

The ending was just the best, though. It was such a happy scene, almost a perfect afternoon, until his death, which made it all the more poignant.

Well done on this one, it's really strong (and I hope we win this round again!)

This was beautifully written and heartbreakingly sad. It says a lot about your writing when characters like Elpinstone (who we never see in the books) actually come across as believable, even though I have no idea what he is supposed to be like in canon. Great job, keep it up!
