Insane Dominator chapter 11 . 12/21/2019
It’s been a while since this story had gotten an update, but tis the season for them updates! So this chapter is a paraphrase to the time when the Fairy Tail mages entered Crocus and decided to wait out the night until the morning of the competition. There have been a few changes made, as well as characterized interactions that were far from ordinary. We got ourselves an original on the Grand Magic Games preliminary rounds that made Natsu take the spot for his team, but on top, there’s also altercations that have been forewarned.

A good majority of the chapter had a focus on Lucy. You’ve got a good dynamic going on with Lucy and her sense of loneliness starting to really take a toll on her personality. From before, she bargained if she was strong enough, she could still have Natsu in the guild (but more for herself), and that’s starting to talk an effect onto her personality and quirks in general. For instance, the usual comedic relief that Lucy normally has been/is isn’t as prominent as before. The situation she’s pegged with hasn’t been the most supportive in her case because she’s not getting attention like Natsu and Ultear, and that’s sparking a motive for her to become stronger than anyone else to make sure she still has a place amongst her love interest/peer. She’s gotten to the point where she needs to be trained in her magic by Erza. It’s gotten to her so much that even she’s gotten prideful of the guild when Sting attempted to bait Natsu into a fight. With all these traits and surrounding Lucy and her struggles as of late, I’m liking this pseudo-dynamic character arc you’re doing for her.

Regarding the chapter, we get a start on the train ride to Crocus, and Lucy is up her Magic Power to concentrate and focus on maintaining it even when she isn’t supposed to until it becomes a subconscious feeling. Her increased stubbornness has lead her to an altercation with herself, making her magic level become a step higher than what it was supposed to be (at least by interpretation). There doesn’t seem to be any negative consequences to this as of yet, but the fact that she can have three gates open at once and not take TOO much recoil is an achievement.

Upon reaching Crocus, having experience with the location and the Grand Magic Games themselves, Natsu was aware of where Fairy Tail was supposed to be. The groups go off and o their own thing, though you didn’t get into too much detail about any of that, which is fine since it can be up to interpretation.

Later on, we get to meet Sting and the Twin Dragons. The scene wasn’t as drastically changed compared to the anime/canon. Sting was being loud and arrogant, and he boasts a lot in Natsu’s face. But Natsu was much more mature from before, so he doesn’t have any audacity to go against the rules and challenge them outside the ring. As much as he would want to, he knows better and is a lot more responsible. I have no doubts that when the time comes, Natsu will definitely silence Sting.

We have another scene that surprised me later on, and this one was completely original. After departing from Lucy for the time being, we got an original talk between Natsu and Laxus, the two high level mages who are apparently old enough to drink and socialize. I don’t necessarily question the morals of this scene as I do with the characterization. We don’t get conversations with Laxus very often, let alone outside the Thunder Legion. To see him without Freed and the others is a little unorthodox, but I’m not saying it’s bad. Just a little unusual.
We don’t have Natsu and Laxus talking to each other like this, it’s unparalleled at best, yet with Natsu now 24, roughly the same age as Laxus, it’s a fair enough gamble. Natsu is a lot tougher in a few areas now, so he has maturity to sit down and talk about the guild with Laxus. It was up to Natsu to protect them, and they turned their backs on him. It was a tough sting, and Laxus didn’t have any directions towards Natsu per se. But since knocking sense into him after the Battle of Fairy Tail, this is a subtle start in the right direction for seeing more characters get screen time, as well as characterization than Lucy.

The scene with Ultear and Natsu in bed is very adorable. It was tender seeing how they snuggled up to each other like how a real couple should. They’re not married, nor do they really have to, but they love each other to trust the other in bed. :)

The next day was the start of the Grand Magic Games, and it wasn’t as oriented as it was back in the anime/manga. There was a drastic change to the preliminary round so it didn’t start after midnight like intended. It was scheduled as per the next day, and as well as the new event. Inside of a labyrinth, we have one contestant from each guild have a battle royal that would determine the means to the next stage. 8 were allowed, so Natsu was picked since he had the best shot at getting to the top 8, which managed. Laxus did just that as well, along with Sting. It wasn’t as exciting nor as adventurous as anyone would’ve intended, but it was still alright. I would’ve expected something like a race, but there really isn’t a keen in power to tell the strongest.
But at the end of the preliminary round, I was shocked of all things Flare Corona was there. She wasn’t part of Raven Tail anymore since Natsu attacked and dispelled the guild, but instead she was recruited into Crime Sorciere. I’m gonna be honest, I didn’t see this coming, and question how Flare will play a part in this game? Her role back then was to beat Lucy and leave an impression up until Sun Village Arc. But with Raven Tail no more and being part of Crime Sorciere, what goals or a role will she have?

So, overall, this chapter was alright. It had a good depth in Lucy’s character and had some good Natsu and Ultear moments in bed. The Grand Magic Games preliminary rounds were less than ecstatic, and it left the imagination a little dry, but it wasn’t too bad.

I’m curious how the next part of the games will go? With this Natsu drama and roles altered in the games, I don’t expect the events to be the same as the anime, which should spice things up!

Well there is evidence that Cerberus just means 'spotted', so you’re not that far away from what Hades did.

Yes! A new chapter to the drama that is Natsu and Ultear’s lives! While this chapter didn’t focus much on their dynamic, it unveiled more of the dynamics of the people closer to them, specifically Lucy. The way you went about it for her sake left a ‘what-if’ impression for if she and Natsu were to have ended up together. In light of all this, you delved some on specifically her own resolve, and what lengths she’s willing to get to in order to get Natsu to come back to them, or rather her.
So, in short, after returning from their date, Natsu and Ultear slept soundly. The next day, they tried to train a little, with help from Loke in means of apology from the king for taking their time away. Everyone was able to obtain items for powers that would give them an edge in the Grand Magic Games to come. While for Lucy, she was given a powerful spell and uses up too much magic. She is healed and rests, but in doing so tries to sway Natsu to come back to the guild if she were to ever get to his level and beat him.

The chapter itself was refined and well, you put up some good points that were crossed in the blink of an eye. But it’s because of this I felt the chapter was a little too short. The details were just fine, but there was a lot of explanation and not a lot if dialogue; wording and the explanation of actions were unbalanced. When you explained the items and what they did, that was a lot of description and too little action provided. It was still substantial so it’s just a minor detail. But overall the reason I felt this chapter was short was because the explanations and describing of how they felt wasn’t broad enough.

The story kicked off from the last point made, which was Natsu and Ultear’s date. They came back late so they checked into their room, which irritated a sleeping Lucy. It feels much like how Lucy would be in the show if she really was awaken like that in the middle of the night; though it feels somewhat slightly agitated. The kick to the face the next morning was an example that was a little out of line for someone like her. Lucy wouldn’t really wake someone up like that. So I would say that could either be because of her current emotions and slight resentment to Natsu and Ultear’s relationship, or it’s something you exaggerated too over-the-top on.

Regarding the next morning, with all of them asleep, they have only 1 week to train before the Grand Magic Games began. They decide to go to the beach to see what they can do with what time they have left in their schedule. That’s when Loke came around when he did. This part was very interesting, because I feel this is what could’ve happened to the anime/manga with these celestial gifts they received. It would’ve provided great convenience to their time in the battles that unfolded.

Erza’s gift was a very unique one that I admire. A celestial sword that in in tune with her magic. It allows her to slow time like a paradox, possibly because of the time difference between the celestial world and Earthland. For something like this to happen, it must use up a lot of Magic Power to keep constant. If you ever write her fight with Kagura, or anybody for that matter, I would love to see her turn the tides with this weapon.
Wendy’s item was just as good. Chelia is able to heal herself, but not her stamina. Wendy’s is the opposite; she can’t heal herself but she’s able to heal others and her own stamina. This weapon she has will allow her to heal herself just like Chelia, so she’ll have stamina and magic to spare in the long run.
Gray’s gift is one that helps intensifies his ice powers, so this should help him with controlling his magic, as well as the usage of more spells and durable ice. With how unique the Grand Magic Games might be because of what alterations you’ve played, I’m anxious to find out where this is going for him and his magic.

I liked Natsu and Ultear’s family gifts as well. I appreciate that you went and made even Celestial Spirits aware of their relationship and their daughter. The rings and necklaces are like Meredy’s Sensory Link Magic, so they’ll know what’s going on with the other.

With Lucy and her own magic, this is where matters become more complex. With her unentitled spell, she ends up becoming overworked and has to heal up. She becomes just as resolved as anybody else, perhaps even more so. After collapsing, she is taken back to the hut and Natsu tends to her. With Ultear nowhere nearby, this is where you unveiled Lucy and her deepest deprivations. She is doing this for her own personal reasons. She wants this power so she can have Natsu to herself, to keep him in the guild and around her. This is a unique and very interest way to go about her character. A lot of fans are in tune with NaLu, but this ‘what if’ case and point made shows how Lucy would take it. And apparently after everything that’s happened, she wasn’t taking it very well and wasn’t giving up. She’ll do anything to make him her own. If this prospect occurs, I wonder what further lengths she’ll go to ensure that he stays? If Ultear and her daughter gets caught up in the crossfire, then Natsu will or someone will have to stop her, whatever it takes.

So, overall, this chapter was a short one, but it delved into Lucy’s character pretty well to show her single life. Through the five stages of grief, we went through the denial, the anger, and now we passed the bargain. Next we’ll have the depression period, and finally acceptance. But with depression coming up, Lucy will have to suffer extremely, and Natsu and the others will also be affected if she gets to that point.

With the Grand Magic Games coming around, I’m anxious with where this goes! Hope to see more of Natsu and Ultear’s dynamic flourish!
