Kitlith chapter 5 . 7/1
Okay, so, I like a lot of this fic, but one thing bugs me as someone whose hobby includes computer security/programming/stuffyour explanation of Yui being saved to Kirito's Nervegear.

Yui's data being converted to a game item? Sure, that's plausible, they probably want the ability to create new items in-game without needing to leave the game, etc. Servers offloading storage of player incentories onto the player's nervegear? That brings up a couple red flags.

First off, a player's inventory is gonna be small. Each item is gonna consist of some sort of item id (probably numerical, possibly a string) a count, a durability value, and some extra data tagged to specific items, such as the items used for dead pets. That's not much information, even when multiplied over hundreds of inventory slots and thousands of players. It's gonna be dwarfed by the size of the textures, 3d models, and definitions of the otems themselves. So, if they have the room to store *literallly everything else in the game*, they almost certainly have room to store player data.

Second off, basically nobody is going to do this, except for people who don't know better. One of the biggest mantras for making an MMO is "don't trust the client, ever." Not that it stops some, but it's often ruthlessly exploited when that mantra isnt followed. Inventory data being stored on player owned hardware opens the very real possibility of exploits, whether that be direct editing of unencrypted inventory data, or rollback attacks on encrypted data, or slightly more involved attacks on the fundimental nature of the encryption algorithms used. This is a nightmare to conaider, and it introduces unnecessary vulnerabilities into the system.

However... there is still a possible explanation. if the company behind SAO/the nervegear was planning for there to be third-party titles that could share inventories between themselves in a decentralized manner, it becomes somewhat possible to imagine them putting in all this effort into storing this data onto the nervegear so that other MMOs could access it, but they'd still have to be careful as a single duplication glitch in any of those MMOs would mean a duplication glitch in ALL of those MMOs.

I still think it's easier to just say that the nervegear came with local file management capabilities for e.g. making notes, taking screenshots, storing a cache of player dms, etc. and kirito was able to send yui's data to that storage from the admin console. not that that explains Yui in ALO.

Frankly, these MMOs either have severe security issues (the server executing code stored on a player's nervegear! the server allowing access to internal services to sortware running on the player's nercegear!) or work in an incomprehensible manner, and I don't blame you for not coming up with a perfect explanation that holds up to scrutiny.
darkmonger127 chapter 7 . 4/28
So, not only is the Fairy Dance arc going to have to be completely different, but now the Mother's Rosario arc will be too. Because Asuna's mother no longer objects to her dating Kirito, and by extension, likely won't object to her attending the SAO Survivor's school, the whole conflict with her mom part of the plot won't exist anymore, and I'm pretty sure that's at least part of what caused Asuna and Yuuki to grow so close. Of course, that doesn't mean that it can't happen, obviously, but it'll definitely have to be quite different from canon. Who knows, maybe this time, Yuuki won't die. After all, she didn't die in the gameverse, and the only major difference was that both Kirito and Asuna grew close to Yuuki, rather than just Asuna. Sure, the in-game circumstances were completely different, with New Aincrad being replaced with Svart Alfheim, but that wouldn't be enough to affect whether Yuuki can pull through in the real world, while if she grows closer to two people rather than one, she may gain the strength needed to make it through. At least, that's what I think is the reason for her survival in the gameverse, storywise anyway.
darkmonger127 chapter 5 . 4/28
Well. That pretty much makes the Fairy Dance arc impossible to occur. After all, the whole premise of it, at least, of Sugou trapping Asuna there, is that he wants to brainwash her into accepting the marriage. Now that her family no longer supports her marrying Sugou, it'd be nearly impossible for that to happen. Now, the only way the Fairy Dance arc could occur is if Asuna, or someone else that Kirito knows, is trapped in ALO to be used as test subjects, rather than how Asuna was treated. Though, if that happened, it'd be hard to imagine anybody finding out that they're even there in the first place, as the only reason Kirito found out that Asuna may be in ALO was due to the picture that was taken by the players who attempted to climb the World Tree from the outside. As the test subjects are being held within the tree itself, there'd be next to no chance for anyone to ever find out. Especially considering the fact that in order to even get to that part, you'd need administrator privileges, or at least, a keycard that has the authority to open the door at the top of the first room of the World Tree. Which likely wouldn't be kept in an area where normal players could find it by just playing the game. Of course, there's the chance that the arc could be changed, to where instead of Sugou trapping Asuna with the intent of using mind control to force her hand in marriage, he'd trap Kirito, due to his abnormal expertise when it comes to anything computer-related. Especially if Sugou somehow hears what Midori told Asuna's family, about Kirito's successful attempt at hacking into the public records database. Though Sugou may just trap Asuna purely out of spite for both the Yuuki family, for canceling the marriage, and Kirito, for causing them to cancel the marriage. Though, although unlikely, it's also possible that Sugou may not become as messed up as he is in canon, due to the absence of what can be seen as a major driving force for him, as he wouldn't be tempted to use the marriage as a means of gaining more power within the company. Of course, he could just trap Asuna and use her as a hostage, and force Shouzou to give him power, but that isn't very likely to work for very long, as it would, without a doubt, get leaked to the public. And even if it wasn't, there's no way that Kirito would just sit around while Asuna is still asleep, especially if he knows what's going on, which would be extremely likely, considering that he'd actually have the approval of her family, and would likely be trusted with saving her, as he'd already done multiple times, in more ways than one. Y'know, I could probably end up going on until this is longer than the actually story, but I'm getting bored, so I'm gonna end it here. Maybe.

ColonelJay chapter 7 . 7/1/2019
Wow... Just, wow...

You took a great concept and realized it fully. Changing the entirety of the perspective despite not interfering with anything major that conflicts with what makes SAO great!

Clap-and-a-half to you, chap. Enjoyed the story a lot! Hopefully, you’ll continue, despite the fact that the last update was 2015 XD

Ash the Aura Guardian chapter 7 . 10/21/2018
Y'know, this kinda explains why Kirito's role as the one who cleared SAO has been kept under wraps; it's a really dangerous secret. There are many people who'd hate him for not being able to clear the game earlier, and he would lose any chance he ever had at a private life.

Still, seeing this scenario was entertaining as hell. After all, I bet everyone in the fandom has probably wondered how people would react when they learned that an unassuming, small and kinda feminine boy was the legendary hero who saved a thousand lives.

Axcel chapter 5 . 6/22/2017
Forced marriage doesn't really work well in modern day, anyway. Women in First World countries have realized that they can just say "No" and remain stubborn about it. The government can claim they are married all it wants, doesn't make them actually married.
