And he responds to a call for help and for the first time I can approve of him again. Still surprised Bruce didn't push him harder, but then I always hated him for treating Tim that way.

Bah. I support Max/Travis and you just invented Travis.

Also, psychology so doesn't work like that and being accepted by the girl you like won't fix your problems and people shouldn't expect it to. And he has so much to make up for now. Bah.

Wow. Travis had better keep the girl because he is much more awesome than Terry. Nice change, seeing 'the boyfriend' be both a proper character and a good guy.

I was dubious about his not knowing why he hated the goons. After all, they kinda tortured him, which changed his life for reasons I still haven't gathered.

Heh. Make me feel like a heel. Okay, I do like most of the dramatic moments you've set up, it's just the motion and transition linking them that is limping. And Tamara's Stockholm Syndrome's cool.

...this is dumb. Terry's behavior is completely ungrateful and unconscionable, and while he proved under torture he was good enough he's proving every day now he's not. Not the drunkenness or even the running from being Batman, but playing the blame game with people who have given him a mountain of second chances. Back when he was expecting Bruce to kick him out for resigning the suit he was broken but still Terry; at this point he's taking so much for granted and being such a heel I don't think he can redeem himself. Angst-tastic this story may be, but it crossed some kind of event horizon into wangst a while back when Terry crossed all lines of pathetic and became completely unworkable as a lead character. Even the limpest tragic leads engage in a range of motion through issues, rather than circling around in their self-destruction.

Though admittedly that's because the circling is too realistic for art. Meh.

So not that a lot of it isn't understandable, but some of it is psychologically improbable and a lot of the childish flailing is just...showing he never should have started being Batman. And while like I said the original writing of the show was crappy enough that he clearly shouldn't, I tend to hold the universe to the standards set by the movie instead, which were rather higher.

But this story has been complete for ages, so eh. I should just skip to the end.

Ugh. I hope Terry wins this one. Though drunk and without the suit and out of condition it doesn't seem likely. But then, the original writing for this show was so bad Terry would regularly get his ass handed to him and then blow up the building and Bruce would tell him he'd done well.

There's a serious problem with this fic. Namely, that it's all about a broken Terry, and yet Terry held out throughout the torture session with Ras and afterward, and only collapsed the next day, in a way that was not made to seem probable in the least. There's no reason to hold onto his pride and identity so hard under pressure and then give up so totally once you made it through without breaking. And I'd really just rather see Terry pull his head out of his ass and Max go off with Travis, because you've made their relationship take the cake for dysfunctional.

I like what you've done with Howie, though. He was /so/ annoying.

I am really enjoying this. I hope poor Terry can find himself again and that he and Max will stop denying their feelings about each other.

Poor Terry! That evil witch beat him up. That was sweet how focusing on Max gave him the strength to endure.

Really good first chapter. This is almost like watching a Batman Beyond episode. Love the sexual tension between Max and Terry. :) I was always an M/T shipper. Now I'm off to read some more!

A great opening chapter. Strong writing, solid characters, a believable dilemma; the tension between Max and Terry is electric and poignant. You've revived the always fascinating theme that Batman is a very corrosive obsession in a way that promises originality and depth.
