Holy crap dude. This was fantastic.
Irymia chapter 1 . 12/3/2017
Wow, looks like I've been looking for this since I started watching RnM. Rick's suicidal attempts aren't something authors write frequently about, yet I was impressed by them while watching the show for the first time so it was REALLY good to find out this story. Very accurate characterization and believable dialogues, I really liked the way you portrayed Rick and Morty's interaction, it looks exactly like a part of the show itself, and the 'I don't want to be alone again' line is so perfect and touching, I swear.
Thank you.

The Fluff Machine chapter 1 . 6/24/2017
Auuugghhh that was soooo gooooood!
*Ahem.*
I had no idea how badly I wanted a legitimate Suicidal Rick character study that so closely followed the canon until I read this. This is incredibly well-written and manages to maintain dialogue that is perfectly in-character yet not riddled with distracting burps or overuse of stuttering (which I see all too often in this fandom). Seriously, it was like I could hear Rick & Morty talking to each other.
There's so much speculative fanfiction about what it looked like if Morty was pushed to the absolute end of himself, of what his suicide attempts might look like and how Rick would help him out of it. But so few people seem to acknowledge Rick's actual, canonical suicide attempt and the after-effects of it (because we *do* see after-effects in the show- like in s2e4!- however subtle they may be). On that note, s2e4 was the perfect jumping-off point for this fic, because Rick did say some scary stuff to Morty.
Speaking of which, I love how you wrote Morty; so often he doesn't get enough credit as a character or a grandson. He may not be book-smart in almost any sense, but he possesses empathy and intuition in spades. I think it's completely reasonable to assume that he would put two and two together after Rick literally asked him to blow his head off.
Their interaction was spot-on as well. It wasn't unrealistically mushy nor was it uncharacteristically calloused. To answer your question, you wrote Rick excellently (in this author's opinion!). Although he tries to convince the world otherwise, he is a human being. His rage, self-hatred, and self-awareness all shone through but you balanced it so well with his (very, canonically real) tenderness and affection for his grandson that he tries so hard to hide.
Sooooo, this review ran way longer than I intended it to- sorry! I just couldn't help it! My love for this show, when joined with such a wonderful, thoughtful piece of fiction, effuses into the world's longest rant. Hope you don't mind, and if it wasn't clear, I truly enjoyed reading this. I can't wait to see what you do in the future!

You did great. Glad you had fun with it. :)
AellaAvori chapter 1 . 7/28/2016
Loved this ficlet so much :)

I feel like it was pretty convincing character-wise. I don't know that the creators will ever delve in this deep into Rick's suicidal tendencies, but I think if they ever let Morty figure it out, it would go something like your story. Thanks for your wonderful writing, I hope you write more R&M (I wouldn't say no to something longer!).
Guest chapter 1 . 4/12/2016
Thank you for writing this.
I thought both Rick and Morty were in character, and your writing style is fresh and engaging, nice tempo.
I'm putting some thoughts re:subject matter here in case you're interested, but if not please just take my compliments and keep writing! :)

Having witnessed several suicide attempt/confrontations myself, I haven't really seen it play out like this on either side. In what I've seen, the confronter tends to be more distanced from their vulnerability (showing less sorrow and fear, more anger and confusion [though for sure feeling it all deep down]). I've seen the attempters either lock up completely and not engage the conversation, or break down with gushing sorrow and/or anger - rather than a controlled continuing conversation.
I'm not saying R&M's responses are inaccurate (my anecdotal experiences don't make me an authority), those were just the details that felt less plausible to me because of my own encounters with the subject.

Again, thank you so much for writing this. Please continue writing!
