Reviews for The Book of Durin
glenwo2 chapter 11 . 9/25
Interesting that you italicized what is happening and not italicizing the past.

It's kind of confusing.
yesboss21 chapter 6 . 6/12/2019
Why are the dwarves always slighted? And is there reward being the growing population of Dwarrowdams and the slow breaking of there curse.
yesboss21 chapter 5 . 6/12/2019
The burden of a king
yesboss21 chapter 4 . 6/12/2019
the burden of years in a way that left the dwarf completely awestruck and unable to muster even the thought that he could speak. Which, for better or worse, was not true of the line of Durin.
“Fili.”

“Yes, Kili.”

“That...”

“Yes.”

“That… that is...”

“Yes. Yes it is.”

Quiet like the maw of the world in which all hopes and dreams went to die, for the Elf’s face bore the weight of years to a length that not even the grandest and largest of dwarves would ever be tall enough to grow.

“That… is a beard! ”

Despite the thick skin he’d developed over the past few days and in spite of the emotionally-charged moment of moments before, Durin, son of Mahal, suddenly found himself feeling vaguely cheated.
yesboss21 chapter 3 . 6/12/2019
It is as history fortold, and nice fic, mostly on creating your own lore, this should be added to One Wiki to Rule Them All as well as all your lore should be accepted as canon
yesboss21 chapter 2 . 6/12/2019
Now that is a spine crawling excitement of a speaker
yesboss21 chapter 1 . 6/12/2019
You have the eyesthat see the past, i salute you because this is a very believable fic, feels like canons lore
Wynni chapter 7 . 1/4/2019
Oh ouch. What a chapter.
Wynni chapter 6 . 12/20/2018
I swear, it is astounding the number of times the dwarves got overlooked or snubbed grossly.

And honestly, for storyscape he lived, he didn't believe in letting anyone have a happily ever after.
Wynni chapter 5 . 12/20/2018
I've missed you!

And such a chapter you come roaring back with, too!

What's this? Another chapter after this one? You spoil me so.

Thank you thank you
CindraLu chapter 4 . 3/22/2017
This is a story that I re-read. Thorin is my favourite, of course. I like the way you've portrayed the personalities of the characters and the sneak peeks of the past ages. I'd like to read more of this Fourth Age with Durin VII, how Fili and Kili are doing in Erebor, and how/when Therin returns. Please continue.

I am loving this! It's great!
I like Cirdan.

Pericula Ludus chapter 4 . 11/28/2015
Better late than never, here comes my review! So sorry about the delay!

Oh always interesting to see how other writers calculate the ages! Thanks for the explanation. Oh you had me laughing with the remark about wishing similar child rearing experiences on your children. I have somehow ended up in a teaching profession and whenever I come across an old teacher of mine, they, without fail, burst out laughing and gleefully wish me some students like myself. I like Thorin’s approach with the children, he is kind, but also tells the truth.

Oooh, the beginning of Moria! How exciting! I like that you draw Eöl in a way that makes sense given his later life. Oh dear… Gondolin… so much tragic in all of Tolkien’s stories, not just the history of the Dwarves… And what a history that is, intertwined with that of the Elves in enmity as in alliance.

So good to read that Vestry has awoken at last. Oh Kíli, Kíli, Kíli… no good sacrificing your own health. I like that you mention that the quest has not been without consequence.

Oh dear, and here we go… warfare and malcontent all over… you did make me smile with the comment about Thranduil, though I was mostly delighted to read Círdan’s name. A spear converted into a mop. Brilliant. Those two are immensely entertaining and I am completely with Elladan & Elrohir in regards to chortling. I bet those two are keen to be among the audience for Thranduil’s much deserved tongue-lashing as well!
Wynni chapter 4 . 11/23/2015
Oh my gracious me! Vestri better recover, your poor Kili's been through enough already!

and I'm loving Thorin and Cirdan's banter. Lovely!
Seems Tolkien certainly had a thing for 'great tragedies'...did he never let anyone besides LOTR characters have a happy ending at all?
Pericula Ludus chapter 3 . 11/8/2015
Your words hold such magic, it is always a special treat to read a new chapter. I love the way in which you interweave legend and current events. You truly bring history to life. Eöl in particular is somebody I have often wondered about. An Elf who loves Dwarves better than his own kin and who will go on to such a tragic story and sire a son with an even worse fate... Thank you for giving him a voice and making him this highly practical and sympathetic character. Kheled-zâram has been found and what a magic moment that was. I particularly liked the way you drew out the differences between Elves and Dwarves, and my favourite quote is Durin saying that Illuvatar allowed a bit of stone into the mix when Eöl was created.
