That’s basically only a part of how powerscaling works. As far as the Gotenks cooler thing, I was completely wrong. I was overestimating Gotenks. Goten and trunks are much significantly weaker than their fathers, so their fusion is much weaker than their fathers Vegito or gogeta fusion could ever be. Gotenks was able to manhandle super buu (but only when he transformed into ssj3, since his base and regular ssj didn’t really do much damage to buu. His super ghost kamikaze attack in his ssj form was the only attack that did damage to buu) before he absorbed the fusion, while goku and vegeta later as Vegito was able to toy around with buu (gohan and gotenks absorbed). Base Vegito probably didn’t even need to go super Saiyan. He was so strong that the fusion could’ve beat buu without needing to transform. But he did anyway just to show how outclassed buu was. And even then, ssj vegito was still toying around with buu, showing the obvious large power gap. Gotenks for all how powerful as the fusion is, is weaker than cooler, even when the latter trained. So that’s the part author San got right. But then we move on to the wrong part

My problem here is that kyuuri was somehow able to push gohan to ssj2 by transforming into false ssj during their spar in one of the wrath of the dragon chapters, when gohan clearly stated after the spar she was almost as strong as his father when he faced off against the Ginyu force. False ssj was theorized by the fanbase, or at least most of the community, to be a power multiplier of 25x, a cut in half multiplier of ssj which is widely known to be a 50x multiplier. Kyuuri in false ssj should not been able to push gohan into ssj2, if her power even with the false ssj. Gohan stated thanks to her, he has begun training again, regaining the lost strength after years of not training after his potential unlocked by elder kai. This is inaccurate scaling, even though this can be possible (but kyuuri would have to be significantly stronger but still a decent amount below to goku, vegeta, and gohan. Transformations, especially super saiyans, are an addition to ones power. It’s not a set power form everybody takes that makes ones power equal to someone’s else. For example, let’s take both android saga goku and buu saga goku. Both can transform into ssj, that is if the latter disregards his ssj2 and 3 forms. Isn’t it obvious who would win in a fight if both gokus fought? Buu saga goku would probably only even need to try a bit and not transform at all just to beat Android goku, even if android goku did transform. That’s how powerscaling works. Everyone is strong based off their training. Ssj forms don’t get stronger if someone decides to train in the form. And stating this once again, it’s not a set based power that everyone follows. A ssj1 could even best a ssj2, perhaps even base, if there’s a large noticeable gap in their power. Even if the latter has a more powerful form it doesn’t matter, if his or her power can’t go past the former in ssj, then he or she has no chance. The most the latter would do is be equal to the former. Another source I would also pull out is the dbs manga by toyotaro. If you ever read most or at least some of it, in the black goku saga arc, goku black, after a zenkai boost, was able to fight equally against vegeta, who was a ssj blue, even in ssj2. Despite ssj blue being a significant power boost over ssj2 and a godly form, despite ssj2 not even holding a candle to the “most powerful of all ssj forms”, as stated by the db wiki, vegeta still had trouble against the zenkai boosted black. And once black went rose, well... rip vegeta)
If this were to be accurate, then base form gohan should’ve been able to handle kyuuri with little to no effort. Gohan still has years of training and a larger power. Kyuuri is still training and trying to catch up to her fellow saiyans. Even if gohan never did continue training, his large power and the unlock potential boost from the elder kai should’ve made his and kyuuri power gap all the most noticeable.

This is just my little theory on the power scaling stuff.

Cooler has been training for many years at this point and considering how strong frieza was able to get in 4 months it only makes sense that he is able to compete evenly with them. Even if the boost of his other transformation isn't as high as super saiyan 3 he is so strong without it so when he does transform he becomes comparable to other transformations like ssj3.

As for the reason he didn't become golden cooler much earlier would likely be because cooler wasn't good enough. I should probably explain. I look at the super saiyan 2 scenario for this.
Just like Gohan needed gokus help and experience in the time chamber, cooler would need frieza's. If Goku didn't think of remaining in their super saiyan form at all times they would just have ended up like future trunks and vegeta and would have lost by trying to win with inferior transformations. Thanks to Goku however Gohan managed to reach super saiyan 2. (Goku is smart and creative when it comes to this stuff)

In this situation however Frieza must have been the more creative one and managed to reach a new form through a way that never even occured to Cooler.
I'm not actually saying that Cooler isn't good enough to win on his own, or that he wouldn't ever figure it out on his own. It's just that despite Frieza being the younger brother he just seems like the best prodigy of their kind. Its pretty much coolers entire character to be jealous of his younger brother because he isn't as good as him.

Not to mention both frieza and cooler have each other as training partners and that would allow them to improve even further and wreck the saiyans.

If you are planning on doing dbs broly, it means you're also doing the dbs series. I only hope that you fix the powerscaling in the series in your story. Cause it's pretty bad. That's my only complaint for the series

*sigh* gotenks should've easily defeated cooler. A fusion combines the powers of both fusees and multiplies that ten times over. Adding that gotenks can transform into ssj3, gotenks power at that form easily tops cooler. Only cooler would've been stronger had he achieved the golden form frieza had obtained in the revival of f movie and super revival of f arc and obtained it. As stated by the dragon ball wiki: Fusion is the process of merging two or more separate beings into one, combining their attributes, from strength and speed to reflexes, intelligence and wisdom. When properly fused, the single being created has an astounding level of power, far beyond what either fusees would have had individually.

I could be wrong however, since ssj3 gotenks didn't really have much of a screen time in dbz (severely misused in dbs and unused in gt) and only showed to be able to severely injure super buu, who was also bested by ultimate gohan, before buu absorbed gotenks. Also, considering that goten and trunks didn't train after buu, their fusion gotenks should be somewhat weaker (in which half saiyans grow weaker after prolonged years of no training). And cooler was able to train to be able to be stronger than buu and goku. So nevermind. It actually does seem to work. But gotenks shouldn't have been knocked out of fusion by cooler with just one blow. That only seems to be the major criticism of mine. But any case, it was a pretty good chapter. Nicely done
