Reviews for Moonsalt
Sky Eclipse chapter 4 . 4/14
I was very much shaken by this fic. It’s terribly underrated and deserves more views and reviews!

I was very unsettled by the premise and story when I started reading. A slow creeping horror of the whole scenario of young lives turning into salt and dying... It was tragic and horrifying to think of.

Slowly I felt horrible for Light, the way he tried his very best, his conviction and beliefs — in the end he still fell to the sickness, but he did his best and lived the longest out of them all. I wish he survived to his nineteen birthday, but alas!

This is a masterpiece, the way you write so beautifully and tragically. I was captivated and could not stop reading! I wish there was more, but at the same time it is perfect the way it is.

The characters were great but I love how in character Light and L were, and how you wrote them. And the crystals and the details, the scenery and most of all the final moments of Light and L together— it was beautiful, stunning and very sad. I feel very sad as Light closed his eyes and said “it wasn’t fair” — yes, indeed it was not! Poor Light, poor L... at least they got to admit some things, and admitted their friendship!

Well done author, you have written something so beautiful in my heart, I thank you for this wonderful tragedy. Thank you!

Bibliophile AKA Ima chapter 4 . 11/17/2017
Wow. Wow. And ow.
Really... great job. This... must have been a hard concept to make work, because it's such a huge twist built from absolutely nothing: absurd. But you really went with that, made the pointlessness the point, beautifully showed the search for meaning out of events that are fundamentally meaningless... congrats.
I do have one single criticism, which is: If there's a chance that the blight is transmitted through the towers' being viewed, and the towers can't be destroyed, surely then people would organize to hide them from view? Cover them with some giant blanket so that young people could go outside without being exposed to the sight? But that's relatively minor.
The characterization: I loved that. I love that you had Misa act on motivations that weren't about Light-and out of compassion, at that. It was touching. And L! Great. Also: Sachiko! I'm very interested in this Sachiko.

This is so creepy! I love it!
XanaduHawk chapter 4 . 8/20/2016
Now I want to check out Shio no Machi, only you said there's no English translation and I can't read Japanese.
Chatwyn chapter 4 . 2/26/2016
Crying buckets. Some of it was funny, like Light still denying that he is Kira -even at the very end! so much pride!- and some of it was just - I started crying again when L said he'd tell Light his name some other time, and Light was so surprised... the last scene was so sad. I'm glad they knew they were friends at the end. Poor Sayu, did it alone, and the whole thing where Light was too late... But this whole thing was sad. Losing an entire generation of school children to something that can't be fought... that is really unfair.

Anyway, beautiful story. Kudos.
qianyuxun chapter 2 . 1/25/2016
beautiful…it's just totally really sad though.
Light died when he was so young,so pure,so bright, without the memory of it would be a better ending than in anime.
i'm utterly moved when Light told L that "you are my first friend, too" and "the only friend".indeed,it's sad and also beautiful.
thanks for the awesome story.
SomebodyLost chapter 1 . 1/24/2016
This was actually awesome. I have no knowledge of Shio no Machi (and Google wasn't very helpful in explaining the plot) but maaaan, the salt stuff that you injected... wah!

But that supernatural thing wasn't the most impressive part. That goes to the characters.

They're very well written. L - despite being pragmatic and rational, he's still the one who refused to accept reality. It was kinda a 'wow' moment for me when Light spelled that out, because L was being unconsciously hypocritical and that it was so subtle but obvious when you look back to it.

Also, with the last chapter, it made me think of a scenario where L wasn't in Japan when that happened. He wouldn't have become driven, only accepting that the Japanese youth died from a curious phenomena. Kinda like what he said about the other nations.

Light... Now he's awesome, too. It was a bit sad though that he died without knowing everything, but it was also nice - he didn't die alone, and he didn't die as the twisted psycho due to the corruption of the Note. Light died as himself, as loose as that term applies.

The other characters are great, too, despite their short scenes. That guy who resigned to care for his family. (what happened then?) was the sign that problem will affect L, but L ignored that. Mom-Yagami (I don't know her name?) was a needed respite, and it was welcomed to see her as something other than the dutiful, kind wife. Yeah, she's still dutiful and kind, but it showed in other ways.

I'm also amazed at the butterfly effects on the background, on what was happening to the rest of the world. That was really cool, as it prevented the fic from becoming too stifling and that it hammered the reality of the salt's infestation.

Anyhoo, thanks for that marvelous read. It was thought-provoking and intriguing. Shame that it doesn't have much views.

Cheers!

P. S. Can you explain the premise of Shio no Machi? Very curious here.
not the birdie chapter 4 . 1/16/2016
Well, I actually didn't expect you to do what you did to Light. I was expecting a deus ex machina or something, and I was pleasantly... um, I'm not sure that's the right word. I was... disturbingly? Happily? Creatively? Anyway, I was surprised. And it was a surprise that I should have saw coming, but I didn't, and it made the story all the better for it.

The description of what happened to Light was horrifying and great, and I could actually visualize every moment. The imagery was perfect. Like, perfect. You've got that figurative language down pat. The part where his foot falls off was weirdly, uncomfortably, and wonderfully hilarious. Bravo! I loved the characterization and struggle between L and Light. That was one of the best I've seen. I mean it!

This is in my list of top-ten Death Note fanfics. Thanks for writing a unique and powerful story!

Absolutely amazing! Very creative and chilling, I love your style.
Guess Who chapter 2 . 1/6/2016
I love me a bit of subterfuge, too!

This is a pretty crazy awesome premise. I like how it ties in Biblical themes with the Japanese, and the descriptions of the salt bloom... the end legitimately creeped me out. Thank you for writing!
Guest chapter 2 . 1/6/2016
Really intresting story. It's really intresting to see this going on please keep writing, I really need to know how this is going to end.
Guest chapter 2 . 1/6/2016
Well, I guess that was interesting. Haven't read anything like this before. Keep going?
Guest chapter 1 . 12/28/2015
This sounds very interesting! I really look forward to part two. Though I wonder if the Wammy kids will be in this, you know, because they're probably under eighteen at that time. I also like how you write Ryuuzaki and his thoughts and feelings.
