I don't know why I never read this story, but I'm glad I have, now. It's a very nice story; well-written, and I like the way Yassen and Alex interacted.

I also love how Yassen treated his son - it's a bit odd to think of him having a son, but you carried it off well.

that was a wonderful read! I agree that they both needed closure and you've provided it brilliantly! ioann was a surprise and a good one at that- Alex and yassen both hope for a better future, to leave behind their cruel pasts and the child is a wonderful way to symbolise that.

I love well-written present tense fic. It just gives writing a different feel, and works really well with probably-PTSD and certainly-damaged Alex whose brain can't shut down even when he tries to force it to, even when he's had years to try to get it to just /stop/, and who'll still get flashbacks when something triggers just right.

And Yassen, still on edge, still aware that he is a hunted man, still aware that supposedly-dead or not, he's still a target (and aware that he would be found eventually and still a bit surprised when it actually happens). With a family that depends on him it just makes him more lethal than ever. I love the reaction to seeing Alex, the first instinct that is to protect his son and then stopping almost immediately because whatever Alex might be after this long, whoever might have sent him, he is not a threat to a child. Yassen, possibly, but never a child, and Yassen knows it.

I love that Alex still has his sass after everything. Even caught by complete surprise and staring at Yassen Gregorovich (the family man and not - currently - the killer), he'll still be sassy because how else is he supposed to deal with it?

Ioann is a sweetheart and a small bit of hope that he'll have what Yassen and Alex never did - a happy, normal childhood - and what John and Helen never did (a happy ending). It'll probably help Alex, too, to know that somewhere out there, there's a small Ioann only just starting on life and with a father who will do whatever it takes to give him a safe future.

And I think Alex is right. Yassen was wrong when he said that Alex did the exact opposite of what Yassen himself did. Sure, Yassen killed his humanity after Hunter's betrayal, but the second time, on that plane, he got it back. Maybe he'll have to keep some of that cold-bloodedness to keep his family safe, but he's still Yasha, not Yassen. The warmth is all Yasha in a way that Yassen never would be. And of all the people out there, it makes sense that Yassen could do what probably years of therapy and normal life couldn't and help Alex start to heal as well.

(And Yassen's flower message was just plain adorable. 'I will shelter you' made me a little sniffly. I'll blame excellent writing).

I'm so glad I read this. It was like poetry only in prose, especially the bits where they weren't speaking and you were describing the scenery. I love Ioann too: he was very sweet, and I'm glad to see Yassen's ok now. The best parts I think were when you described the differences between Yassen and Ioann's eyes, and how Yassen met his wife at the end. :)

This was absolutely amazing, and one of the best fics I've seen posted for AR in a long while. I love how you took all the weird continuity problems from Russian Roulette (which seriously annoyed me when I read it) and made them make sense. This was the wrap up I wish the series had had!

I actually searched up the flowers before I saw your edit...Oh well. At the very least, I learned something , I really loved this story. It was a pleasant surprise. i thought the AR community was deader than dead. The dialogue flows so wonderfully and it gives me the conclusion/post book reunion I've always wanted. Thanks for sharing!
