I KNEW it! Shikamaru and Temari really ARE in love! If those two were real, they'd do the following:

Get married
Wear non-ninja clothing (fishnet clothes are out of style these days)
Move into my late grandparents' house, which is in the west side of my hometown of Columbus (Ohio)
Start a family (with their first child being a boy named Shikadai [their son])

This way, I can get to know them better by introducing them to my family, ask them about how they met, and even take them with me on my usual outings (Dave & Buster's, Magic Mountain, bowling, Clippers games [making sure that Temari doesn't get hit in the head by a foul ball {because having Shikamaru wait for the ambulance to arrive at Huntingdon Park with Temari lying down on a short wall would be a drag}], etc.), including the annual Kings Island trip.

This is very well written when looking at the basics for sentence structure, time line, and grammar but I feel like it's pretty Alternative Universe and Out-Of-Character for both Shikamaru and Temari. The main reason for the the feeling of AU is that you mention Taunade being the one that gave them the task to go through the Chunin exam files, while in the real story Kakashi becomes hokage after the 4th great ninja war so this task would of been assigned from him. Shikamaru is also said to become the Konogakure Alliance Representative after the war, where as Temari takes on the same role for Sunagakure, it's hinted in both Shippuden and the short story "Shikamaru's Story" that they developed their relationship after spending time together and that although they are both rough people they share moments of softness. So with that in mine the timeline of this story doesn't match up fully with the time line of Naruto. That also leads me to my next feeling that they out are a bit out of character here, if we are going by it being in the same timeline of the real story, Shikamaru and Temari have already been hinting at their feelings for eachother. At the end of Shikamaru's Story he asks her out on a date and the very last segment of the "future" they share a conversation after Shikadai's birth although the book doesn't directly say it's them having the conversation.

All in all as a stand alone it was a fun little snipit to read but when I read the description I was thinking it was going to follow more of the story that Kishimoto has thought up for them.
