While I was glad to see this get an update after so long, the fact this chapter starts as a flashback puts be off even reading the story at all. If what happens here is in any way relevent to the story, it should have been included at that point in the story. I really don't have the time or inclination to fix a disjointed timeline because you didn't plan your story before you started writing.

Kind of a bland fic, sadly. Going the same way as all the others, with the inexplicable vanishing of magicals and clinging to the canon events. Your writing style is good, at least. The story itself just lacks anything notably new to draw people into the (unchanged) plot. If nothing changes, why bother writing those scenes? The romance of Williams and Shepard is also cringeworthy in how rushed/forced it is, in my opinion.

I'd love to see a fic where the Mass Effect stuff took place in a different reality entirely. At least then, authors wouldn't have to hand wave away the whole "where are the other magicals" issue. It's always a rushed, half-baked, nonsensical explanation (if there is one).
