Wow, I didn't think Sheila would hit him. Poor Kyle, that broke my heart. I am glad they ended up moving on and having a happy marriage and life. No one wants to cut their parents. They are your parents but in this case it needed to be done. Shelia is stubborn so I am not surprised she never came around.
