Aside from the fact that you've made Cinder completely inept to video games that she confuses the usual jargon for "code words"; which was funny, there is something subtle about you having Genm transform at the last minute, and Don's reaction to it.

In a life and death struggle, THAT'S how people are going to normally react. The "last minute" transformation cliche consists of anyone who's with the hero to be in awe, relief and cheer. Getting a second wind, if you will.

Most of the time, and depending on certain circumstances, if you found out that a teammate with a potentially game breaking trump card has been holding back the entire time while the rest of your team was dying left and right, hell yeah you're going to be outraged.

Cinder hasn't seen anything yet, what with Pallad and Graphite still out there. If anything, Pallad has shown to be just as powerful; if not more so, than a maiden in terms of brute strength and skill, even in base form. He was able to block a Level 3 attack effortlessly with one hand in canon, and by what you've foreshadowed here, he's probably stronger.

After everything that Cinder went through on the canon series, I don't even like her as a villain since she's so... generic now.

If anything, her entire smug persona makes her more annoying than intimidating. The way she talks, her voice, and how she carries herself doesn't translate to a good villain, but someone overcompensating. It could have worked, but she just comes off as a brat. And, that bratty temper was very apparent here from your writing.

Seeing her getting torn down a peg here was fun.

Now, I'm more than a little curious with how you're going to have Salem in this story, what with a subset of new Grimm outright deviating from her will and with their own agenda.

Still, this was a great villain chapter, and has gotten me even more intrigued as to WHO Genm even is if he didn't even react that much to Cinder.

Or, you're deliberately being misleading here. The identity could be anybody. Someone we least expect. It's kind of baffling, so, surprise us.

Love this little adventure, seeing the rwby villains reacting to base Bugsters and having a little spotlight since they've been, while not fully, replaced with a more pressing enemy. Seeing always cocky Cinder brought down a beg was fun and makes me excited for the next chapter.

Though for all of them its only going to get tougher, these are the first levels and they always let noobs get their footing before the true shit begins. The race to get the other gashats it going to be a test, a powered of Graphite, then well

Great update. I never really forgot about this story, but I wondered what its status was. It isn't dead, but the progress is slow, provided there are more coming.

There were a few clues here and there about Genm, but the chain blade was the most suspect. Not making any solid guesses, because expectations were subverted before. Here's to hoping for another chapter.

hmm, so instead of seeing how our heroes are doing after Neptune/brave made his debut and stuff, we instead go to the side (and I think back in time a bit) and see how the villains' are doing, or a bit more specifically, we see a little more on genm. that's nice.

although now cinder knows about the bugsters existence and luckily just a bit of info. that's definitely going to be dangerous and worrying later on.

although now this shows that the tutorial's over for the riders since our latest monster of the week is a level 3. just how with this anti-hero (?) handle this situation? :)
