This fic hurt to read, but it was so right, too. I thought you did a great job with Evan's backstory here and I really liked how you showed Evan's interests changing and the reason behind that.

Evan's first interest being trucks was heartbreaking, especially with how you tied it into his dad leaving. Your portrayal of how his parents' divorce caused Evan to withdraw and develop the anxiety and insecurities he has in the musical added some much-needed dimension to his character and I liked how you showed how hard Heidi tried to be both mom and dad to Evan, but couldn't... and I thought it was great how you showed Evan catching on to that.

I particularly liked the last line and the bittersweetness attached to it - Evan has a hobby and passion he loves, but no one to share it with, when that's all he really wants.

And then that one day happened with the "accident" and his forest expertise got the best of him... Ugh, this gives me the feels. I'm literally reading this before bed after having listened to the DEH soundtrack about 15 times in a row today alone, and in tired, and I just don't have the energy to not break down right now.
