the function of a rubber duck,is far as i know, is to entertain muggle children while they are in the bath. As to make giving the parents an easier time. if there are any older muggles than children that use a rubber duck,it is(as far as i'm concerned) a strange obsession, or a source of curing boredom.

Actually according to Ravenclaw edition of Philosopher's Stone Sprout and Flitwick were in relationship but it didn't work out and they remain friends... So sayimg they were never romantically involved would be a lie.
