Reviews for The Sword in the Darkness
Amanthya chapter 5 . 6/15/2019
I think I'd call this the version most-likely-to-have-been-the-reality that I've read, were they all real people. Lyanna was somewhat thoughtless, somewhat ignorant, entirely presumptious, fully impulsive and totally blind. Rhaegar was self-entitled, inconsiderate, deceptive and selfish and more than a little mad already. Both were fools, and foolish. I can absolutely see Rhaegar thinking he'll get what he wants out of Lyanna and neither she nor Elia should, in his clouded mind, have any problem with all of this. And Lyanna having to delude herself to the very end, because her moments of clarity pain her and she's too immature and self-absorbed to handle it - yet she's not entirely without heart, and would feel guilt and shame for the children killed... even as she tries to rationalize this... because now worst of all, she's so horribly afraid. I feel both sorry for and disgusted by her. Though, as always, I loathe Rhaegar mostest of all, for being a completely idiotic selfish *sswipe. They feel very "real" and fleshed out, though.
ol-11jrw chapter 5 . 6/10/2018
Glad to see a story that presents Lyanna Stark as the bitch that she is. Honestly I feel like gagging when I read stories that present her in a positive way as I actually despise her.
John Spangler chapter 5 . 4/2/2018
After reading your parody, I find almost hard to read this story without laughing. However, I really enjoyed it. It's nice to read something where that relationship is portrayed realistically, and as close to canon as possible.
Kurogami Mika chapter 5 . 4/1/2018
You're depiction of Lyanna is superbe, even though she sounds exactly like Cercei.
Kawaiiolorapollo chapter 1 . 2/6/2018
Will there be more chapters?
Daene the Reader chapter 3 . 1/18/2018
I love it! thank you
Duesal Bladesinger chapter 3 . 1/18/2018
Those two completely deserve each other.
alexandra101 chapter 3 . 1/18/2018
I'll be honest this chapter was almost hilarious to me (because she finally realizes that she lost everything and gained nothing). I'm not a huge fan of Lyanna and her assumption that Elia and her kids will be tossed aside. And it's like you wanted to be free and instead she goes with a Prince who has a lot of responsibilities and is married. I know she's young compared to Rhaegar (the whole she was seduced by him) but she already had plans of being Queen and getting rid of the other kids. I hope that Elia and her kids live through everything and don't die like in canon. I can't wait for more!
Queen Puduhepa chapter 2 . 1/8/2018
Poor Lyanna, however I'm not sure if I should pity her or feel that she got what she deserved.
Your characters are depicted in a vey dark way and both have some psychological issues. It's interesting to read how both of them could go to the verge of madness, Rhaegar with his belief in prophecies and Lyanna because she's in love.

When Lyanna finally realises that what she has wanted wasn't great, it quite broke my heart but I also thought she needed to be taught a lesson. I feel split and I should say that, because of that, you did a good job.
Queen Puduhepa chapter 1 . 1/8/2018
Ok, I'm starting this story. I must confess that it's the first one I read with this take on Lyanna. It's still quite odd for me to depict her as a jealous and bitter teenager, but I must admit that it's original. In most fics I used to read she's usually depicted as a wilful, nice but careless young girl, not really the type of person to loathe a woman because she is married to her love interest. And what is also uncommon is that for once it's Lyanna who seemed to desire Rhaegar first not the other way around.
And that makes me wonder if Elia is really bored and indifferent to Rhaegar or it's Lyanna who sees her so because of her lust for the prince.
AnnaMartell chapter 2 . 1/7/2018
I have always loved your stories because tour portrayal of all the characters seem so real. I have never liked Lyanna but I like that here we have a motivation for her to do what she did. I hope un the books we have a more complex explanation for her actions besides the "true love"
Julyza chapter 2 . 1/7/2018
I like this story ,mostly because your portrayal of Lyanna(and some extent rheagar) is... more human. She isnt this Disney Princess who runs away with her true love ,but also isnt the villain who took rheagar away from Elia. She is just a teenager who's inbred crush said the grass-is-always-greener-on-the-other-side thing and it killed alot of people...including them.
Tina chapter 1 . 1/4/2018
O M G it's as if you have some magical one-way conection to my psyche or something. The way you've written lyanna, her self-centered ME ME ME! tunnel-vision, and the way she looks down at elia for being a typical southern lady, for, contrary to lya's high expectations, not being able to control her own fate. For conforming to have kids like women are expected and pressured to, in not just asoif but real world, too. The ableism, the frightening yet believable lack of empathy and thus of any whit of sympathy. The underlying tones of racism. (elia's ashen skin - first elia is contrary to popular belief beautiful in canon, and i can buy her looking not her bes when tired, but ashen? Nice try, lady stark).
GalanthaDreams chapter 1 . 1/3/2018
I read this specifically because I'm not a Lyanna fan and, just, wow. This perfectly encapsulates why I dislike her. Not only does it feel true to character, the smaller details sold me on it. Snippets on how living on Dragonstone had stolen Elia's glow and made her grey and Lyanna asking why being a lady was so great after all were fantastic. Lyanna really is the very worst parts of young Arya and Sansa. Selfish and self important.
Guest chapter 1 . 12/30/2017
I’m glad to read a story that doesn’t present Lyanna Stark as a saint when she is in reality nothing more than a spoilt brat
