This story is dark, mesmerising, complex and utterly addictive. I love the psychological realism that has gone into it, and I'm even more impressed to know you don't have the details of the plot planned out in advance. May I also add, I'm speechless at how perfectly you have depicted Lucius's polished upper-class cynicism, as well as the ever-present, smooth politeness that covers his controlling and hedonistic nature.

My personal impression is that Hermione and Draco's marriage is over at this point: only, she has been desperately fighting to save it while he... he is unaware of its end, just like he is oblivious to everything else in his life, the poor booby. Had their bond been strong in the first place, no amount of Lucius's machinations would have broken it; they would have found a way to talk it out and listen to each other respectfully. If I were Hermione, I would end the marriage without taking away Draco's illusions on his father, just to keep him out of his addiction and loneliness. I would refuse all Malfoy money and briefly crash at, say, Luna's place (and if the latter is with Neville... well, he can't possibly go down the same path as Harry). And I would get veeery good at protection spells and wards so that no Lucius can come over in the middle of the night.
