Twinsfan725 chapter 14 . 5/5
I really liked this chapter! Many things stand out for me in this one. For instance, I like that Robert installs a sense of confidence in Cora while he teaches her how to ride a horse. It shows how much he really does care for her, despite not being in love with her quite yet. And on the flip side, I kind of enjoy Cora playing hard to get here (and throughout most of the story). She’s met other men who have been interested in her, but she hasn’t exactly been throwing herself out there either. Romantically she’s been keeping Robert somewhat at a distance (I can’t remember if he’s already proposed to her or not at this point), and it seems like she does want to marry for love, I think she’s just worried that money and fitting in to the British aristocracy has made her slightly hesitant about becoming too attached to Robert. That element makes the story and characters so much more alluring and fun to read!

Also, I love your introduction of James Crawley and his wife Julie. I thought it was a clever twist to make her seem just as arrogant and mean as James, but in actuality it’s more of a mask she wears due to her insecurities (as you explain through Cora) as a wife who’s always put down and overrun by her husband. That’s great characterization! It makes me wonder if Cora and Julie will become allies once Cora becomes part of the Crawley family, both being in slightly similar situations.

And as always, Rosamund is a complete gem. She’s definitely the sister Cora never had. I’m glad that she and Cora have always been close in canon (it’s hardly shown on screen though) because it makes me wonder how difficult it might have been for Cora to adjust to joining an aristocratic family had they not formed that sisterly bond way back at the very beginning.

Ok, I think this is probably the deepest I’ve ever gone into writing a review, but that’s awesome because there was a lot to like in this chapter and I believe you’ve really developed and portrayed a set of characters we all know very well into a well-written, original prequel to the series. Well done!

Really outstanding chapter! I especially like the interplay between Cora and Julie. I also enjoyed Cora and Robert and the horse adventure, too. You're a very gifted writer!

I loved Rosamund's tea party, I could actually see the scene play out in my head. Your characterization of Cora is so great you write her so strong which would make since she did leave her whole life behind.
