Reviews for A Beacon of Light in the Dark
ijpowers92 chapter 16 . 5/1
It's cool that Ben finally felt secure enough to share his origins.

That said, I think everyone else is expecting a bit much from him.

Obi-Wan didn't really come into his own until at least the Clone Wars (though he really peaked in his twilight years).

What he really has going for him is a POV that's closest to the canon High Republic Jedi (which is sounding like the most positive portrayal of Jedi we have yet to see).
That's not a small thing itself. Most of this group's issues with the New Jedi Order stem from a disconnect between it's stated values and traditions and the New Jedi Order's stated values and traditions.
(As an aside, that's not really Luke's fault. He's built the New Order from scratch with only some basic training and popular mythology to go on).
But, they're expecting General Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Paragon. What they're going to get is Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Knight, dutiful padawan of Qui-Gon Jinn and exasperated master of Anakin Skywalker.

He'll be able to bring a lot of insight and wisdom to the table, but that will be (presumably) mostly coming from his unique culture and education. Instead of insight and wisdom born from personal experience.
Janekge chapter 15 . 4/21
Hi, first I’d like to say that I really like your fic so keep up the good work. Now I have to make a note on the lightsaber forms, You mixed up form IV and V Ataru is form four, also while Maul most definitely knew form VI with it being designed for dual-bladed lightsabers, his primary style was Juyo, much more aggressive and less inclined to use the force mid combat. Unfortunately there aren’t any really famous Jedi or Sith utilizing form VI as their primary. So anyway these are really small things and not in the story proper so don’t worry.
E chapter 12 . 1/8
I'm so absolutely confused as to the timeline. I'm very well versed in both Canon and Legends, and this style of picking and choosing from both has left me severely disoriented. I like your story and where it's going I guess, I'm just really put off by the seemingly random blend of past and present. I have no idea what is 'canon' for this timeline now and I don't think that's a plus. I'm open to the idea of AU, but the way this is done it just leaves me confused as to what did and didn't happen. Old Republic era seems to be Legends, while Clone Wars seems to be Canon, and then who the fuck knows for the Galactic Civil War? New Republic seems to be Legends-ish, with characters of prominence from both Legends and Canon, while the Yuuzhan Vong are also here I guess. And there's... cooperation or concessions between them and the New Republic? The Empire is staying out of the war? Jacen is some kind of cult leader? I mean, I guess that's like how Jaina was revered as a God, but this seems like something he supports, not incidental. Also, a whole bunch of weird seemingly out of context commentary on the Jedi? Look, the summary really does not convey any of these things at all. Obviously Obiwan was going to change how the story of NJO played out, but I had no idea that the universe he was entering was already drastically different. Also, it's a canon and legends kind of crossover, which adds even more complexity. All around, not a bad story, I'm just really confused about the setting. Could use some smoothing out as right now it seems really cobbled together lore wise, but that might just happen with more bulk anyways.

Hmmm. I have some mixed feelings here. On one hand, yay! We finally got some Legends canon characters really interacting with Obi-Wan! *cough* pardon me ...interacting with Ben!

I am really looking forward to further conversations between them all.

And, while the inclusion of Canon only characters in the Legends-verse is a minor peeve of mine (Just a minor one. I mean, I prefer Canon on the whole, but I feel there's a habit of creating fusions of the two verses in fanfiction) I will admit, I am a big fan of Mr. Bones.

Also, I really liked Gregor's monologue. A nice way of balancing the different depictions of Clone armies. The kind I would have expected to eventually pop-up in a Legends novel.

ijpowers92 chapter 11 . 12/16/2019
I am surprised to see so many analogues to canon characters showing up.

I am a bit disappointed to be honest as I have been looking forward to seeing Ben interact with Legends characters.
ijpowers92 chapter 10 . 11/18/2019
Can't believe I missed (or forgot) how early this Obi-Wan came from.

Also, Snap is here!
And Mr. Bones!
ijpowers92 chapter 9 . 10/28/2019
I am very happy to read a new chapter in this fic. And I remain hooked.

It's going to be fun seeing Obi-Wan's reaction to Galactic history.

I am particularly interested in the differences he might notice.
Bortho chapter 8 . 8/16/2019
Massively underutilized time period for time travel fanfic. Very excited to see what happens next.
