Thank you so much for writing this. I've learnt a great deal about it, and honestly, I needed this to help with world-building and understanding how politics and economics in a possible fantasy setting. I honestly thank you.

PrinceMittens chapter 5 . 2/12
I'm so impressed by the depth of political and military theory you put into this fic that I don't know how to fully express it in words. Piecing together some of the content you've put out, I'd wager you're pretty studied in political science and are probably a big military buff. I'd also be willing to bet that you're enlisted, commissioned or have looked into doing so. The strength of this fic lie in its strong writing coupled with its greatly intelligent foray into military and political theories (I learned a lot.) The F.E. characters and setting was a great canvas onto which you've poured your own thoughts, and your characterizations were incredibly entertaining (e.g. Dimitri's one-man stand against eight, Werner's description of gendarmes.) This was easily one of my favorite reads, and I'm glad that you wrote it. Thanks for sharing.
PrinceMittens chapter 4 . 2/12
Damn. That's some solid political philosophy and theory you've laid out there.

Hey my dude. Super appreciate the details and logistics you put into the battle scene. It's very well done, and you and I both know it
Sonochu chapter 3 . 1/31
I'm not sure what to think of this story, honestly. It's written well and a lot of the historical facts are right, but it also seems to be a blatant power fantasy and unrealistic given the added historical realism.

For instance, why is Jeralt's mercenaries 5,000 strong? That's an extremely unreasonable number, more than most Lord's would b expected to raise in times of war. Yet Jeralt somehow has the funds to pay an extremely well equipped and disciplined outfit thousands strong? There's no way he'd get paid enough to pay them in turn without being involved in a war campaign, which he obviously isn't. His mercenaries should be hundreds at most, not thousands.

Furthermore, for claiming that the other countries weren't superior to Fodlan, this really hasn't shown it. Jeralt's wiped the floor with three separate, trained armies. And, honestly? The three armies should've won.

A tercio, or gun and Pike formation more generally, while powerful, still has major weaknesses. Arquebuses sucked early on. They were really inaccurate and slow to reload. What made them so useful was thought someone could be trained in them easily. It takes days to learn how to fire and maintain a gun when it would take years to learn to properly use a bow. They could also punch through armor (similar to heavy bows and crossbows) and could terrify men and horses with it's loud noises. Their sole purpose originally was to get people to flinch and cower before an inevitable charge since the guns themselves were so inaccurate.

A place like the Alliance, which prides itself on its bowman, the Empire, which prides itself on its mages, or even the Kingdom, which prides itself on its pegasus knight and cavalry (which can easily flank a tercio, much like how a phalanx could easily be flanked, could all handle a tercio effectively. Granted, a tercio isn't a bad formation obviously, but you never even touched on its weaknesses.

I'm really not sure why you're not using much of the fantasy setting, actually. I mean a formation of wyvern riders or pegasus knights would be extremely effective against a tercio consider just how inaccurate arquebuses were. Adding a third dimension to the battle only makes them even more inaccurate. They'd be able to skirmish with the tercio all they want with little resistance.

And of course mages would make mince meat out of the whole formation. What good is a tightly packed formation of pikeman with a group of mages can just call down a ball of fire or ice, or a single mage could call down lightning (all which can be done in the game)?

Like I side, I do like the story. I just wish it fully considered both the benefits and drawbacks of taking a Renaissance style military formation and throwing it in a fantasy setting with magic, dragons, monsters, and flying cavalry.

This actually makes a lot of sense. Most of the issues in FE3H can be alleviated by Byleth's presence. So why not make him teach all 3 houses at once. Probably leads to the best outcome.
