Aside from the shift of p.o.v, which kind of confused me a bit in the beginning, this story is very well written. Kudos.

As you say in the end, it's not obvious what this is going for. It's reasonably well-written, so unlike a lot of stories without a clearly developed idea, I read it through to the end, so it's a success in that sense. I don't think it's really doing much with the premise of Oregairu, though. Here, 8man's canonical self-justification and failure is replaced by intensity, achievement, and using overt assholery to teach lessons - and ultimately getting thanked for it. That flies in the face of one of the major themes of Oregairu, which is that intelligence and good intentions aren't sufficient - we all have to grow up and learn to live with other people. This 8man doesn't really live to explore that idea though. In socio-sexual terms, he's already a complete man in himself and succeeds in spite of existing outside of the social hierarchy. That's kinda fun, I guess, but it's not really Oregairu, which is ultimately what's "wrong" with this. That said, don't take that as me pissing on this project. It's okay that it's "not Oregairu" - keep exploring whatever this is and see where it takes you.

Absolutely marvelous! This 8man feels like a major upgrade when compared to the canon 8man. Please do a season 2!

No, I'd have to say this is a Hachiman with a little more concern for others' feelings and a little more drive that matches that. The canon Hachiman was lacking
