I don’t think I’ll ever get over Sirius’ death. As I’m rereading I realize what made me the saddest was that he died at such an unhappy time in his life. Sirius was miserable in OOTP. He was bitter. He was remembering everything he had tried to forget with having to stay at his old family’s house and it tore him apart inside. Not to mention all those years he spent in Azkaban. I think he was too depressed and that’s why he couldn’t be a fully father figure in Harry’s life. Not to mention Harry never got to live with his godfather or a loving family for long...he spent 17 years of his life in an abusive household where he was neglected, emotionally abused, and treated like he was worthless. It’s actually amazing he turned out as nice as he did. That’s what makes me so sad. I think its so so sad that Sirius diss at possibly the worst time in his life and Harry never got to live with a family who truly loved him. Excuse me while I cry...

I've read this before but had to read again today on the 20th anniversary of Sirius' death. It captures what I want to read in a story about this. I love how so many of his thoughts come back to Harry in this! The reason I loved Sirius was because he always made Harry his first priority. And the story portrays that along with other important concerns of his.

Oh my god. This is so short and yet it moved me to tears. This is wonderful and perfect and all we need, really, to end Sirius' story. Thank you.

Aww… *wipes away tear* This is *exactly* how I envisioned James and Sirius's reunion! It's the best story of this sort that I've found. Please disregard the idiot who wrote that flame several reviews below. He clearly doesn't know what he's talking about, nor do his comments even make sense. Personally, I think the title is perfectly fitting, and the characters are, well… in character, if you'll forgive my redundancy. I'm glad you didn't take his review to heart and stop writing, because then we of the Harry Potter fandom would never have the beautiful "Promises" series that are, for all intents and purposes, classics. I know you've moved on to other fandoms, but I'll thank you again for your wonderful contributions to the world of Harry Potter. I have you know that after reading this, you've made me want to chronicle the Marauders years in Hogwarts, as impossible a venture as that is!

This is amazing! The emotion, for starters, is real. His regret for leaving Harry, his need to apologize when seeing friends, and his hope for this afterlife is so bittersweet.
I particularly love Sirius thoughts that revolve around Harry. I always felt bad for how much Sirius wanted to do for Harry but couldn't. Of course he did a lot for him: being the adult Harry could trust with the vision of Voldemort, listen to Harry's frustrations and worries, just being a parental figure that put Harry above all else, and really being someone that Harry could relate to.
The conversation between these three is beautiful. Love how James reassures Sirius about switching the secret keeper and about being Harry's family. "He'll remember that, especially when he needs it most." That line is beautiful. It really makes me want to smile and cry at once. Beautiful!
I love Sirius. I love this one-shot. I think you have such a wonderful understanding of the characters!

I don't think I can find words to review properly, but since I'm sure others have, I'm not worrying too much.
The whole stroy is so frustrating! So frustrating... If only Sirius had remained the Secret Keeper, if only he had been suspicious about the right person back then, if only he had not told Kreattur to disappear... one mere decision, and Sirius would have had a decent life... It's really frustrating, and sad, and more frustrating.

This is the most horrible story i have ever red. It is like, you explain someone for 5 minutes the harrz potter world, and then expect this person to write a strory about it. This person can not have any idea about how the characters moral code, intelligence, their relationships with each other and so on. The result of this experiment would be this story. Just read the last chapter. The worst peace of crap story ever.
Does the "author" even know the books? Or ATLEAST the movies? Even the movies are good enough to explain the characters. What was the guy thinking who wrote this insult?
Maybe he or she was thinking "How can I make Harry Potter look even worse than Twilight?"; "How can I make Harrz Potter a big fat joke?"
Just have a look at the tilte. How can someone be so stupid? Seriously!? Did the "author" even understand the oh so complicated way the titles of the seven original books were structured? "Harry Potter and 'something you can put your hands on'" The title must have been something like "Harry Potter and the veil" or "Harry Potter and the people behind the veil" or whatever!

What the hell is wrong with you? What were you thinking? Are you 5? In that case: Bravo! If not, DO NOT EVER WRITE ANOTHER STROY!
