Poor Picard, what a burden.

This is a difficult problem. I can see Q's point. I can also see the points that Picard made. Once again, Picard saves the day, at least for now.

I don't know what course of action Q will take, or whether Picard and Q are friends, or whom to pity more. Basically, life as a member of the Q Continuum sucks, but it seems like Q manages to break free of living mindlessly to fulfill his purpose at least. Though humanity as he describes it does sound rather terrifying...

This is good but didn't go nearly far enough. You could do with writing a sequel to fill in missing bits to give the story an ending.

How's that for a reality check?

great story! i love Q as flawed and god-like as he is as a character, probably why i do like him so much, and i think you did a wonderful job with their conversation as twisty and round about as it is and still makes sense. very well done!

I liked it. Kept me reading at 2:20 in the morning when I should have been getting some sleep for work the next day. Is there a sequel? Something where Q returns and reveals to Picard what happened between him and the Continuum?

Well I liked that very much. I'm originally a TOS fan so I only started watching TNG recently but the dynamic between the two is simply electric. I think you captured it perfectly.

done some research, this that and the other thing, and i have found that this is the oldest known fanfiction on the site. the reason for the high id number (id 1457) is because they recycled id's and had a very poor system in the olden days. only six other fics were even posted in 1998 and this is the first of them. only two others from that year are still on the site.

Tiny, pedantic, Q-would-certainly-say-it-reminded-him-of-Picard-type point: shouldn't it be "Raison *de* Q"? Granted that "Q" isn't precisely a word, the combination of phonemes that correspond to it most certainly do not begin with a vowel, either in English or in French.
