H-holy crap... That ending was so intense and yet eerily calm at the same time. My heart hurt for Sarah. You really made me think. If you accept the gift of being given your dreams, does that mean you no longer will have the ability to dream? That's what happened in a way. And this is such a terrifying way to visualize what Jareth had in mind for Sarah when he offered that crystal ball in the movie. Here, Jareth gave Sarah the ability to create a dream world at the "cost of her imagination" but could it be that she reached the peak of attaining her dreams that she could no longer imagine? Ack everything just intertwined so much in the story you don't know what's real or not! I'm as confused as Sarah is... Also in a way, she's now a storybook character herself, and as we know storytellers are what give life to characters... If we look deep into it you can perceive the characters themselves are essentially mindless beings following what the storyteller is telling them to do... In a way... Jareth forced Sarah the storyteller to become Sarah the book character... And now her role is queen of the kingdom she created. It's a happily ever after in such a sad way.

Have you ever thought of doing this story from Jareth's point of view? Could be an interesting project...

And now I really feel sad for her.

i had an inkling of what was happening, but nice take on the "jareth needs sarah to rebuild his kingdom" plot. i like the etheral feel of it. great job! :)

Just reread this for the first time in a long time. It's amazing. Absolutely amazing. And so much better for the fact that she never knows, can't imagine anything else now. So great.

Whoa. This story was amazing. I really liked the portrayal of Sarah in the beginning of her insanity-the overlapping thoughts gave the feeling of scattered thoughts and uncertainty. Overall, I think what I liked most about Whispers was the way the emotions came through. Great writing. :)

I loved the sharp, unreal, feel to the middle chapters. I really enjoyed how you used the dialogue to answer questions, narration to confuse those answers (one main character was crazy and the other was a manipulative liar-what other result was possible?), description (blinding us with Sarah, showing only what she heard and felt) to show us what was. It was gripping and really interesting to read. So, that all earns five stars for form and concept.

So all that was a joy to read. The last chapter (in the middle only) made me kinda mad (which is good, b/c it means you get emotion from your readers). Jareth tortures, maddens, forces, lies to, steals from, and otherwise manipulates Sarah, and then it's "I'm what you have, so live with it. Oh, by the way, I love you." But your ending was the perfect cap. Yes, she's in love. Is it what she wants? Well, Jareth broke her so we may never know (until perhaps a sequel reveals what happened after the facsimile happy ending). It has to be one of the best endings I think I’ve read. So that places you around seven or eight out of five stars.
