This wasn't too OOC. I could see Ed snapping after something like that happened. Mustang comforting him wasn't sappy - I like how he said that Ed accepted it, kind of like he did after the whole thing with Nina and Tucker. But he wasn't mean about it, he was just being fair.

I like this story - They're both more or less in character, which is real important. Ed's got that feeling of being brittle - lookin strong but is easy to break if you know how - and Mustang's just kind of ... dunno, solid.

I like your idea of where Roy's watch went. It's a nice contrast against Ed's, where Ed keeps his on him all the time and messes about with it.

As for the watch... I don't know about the anime, but in the manga Roy and Ed actually have a conversation like this, where they both pull out there watches and discuss being tied to the military. Course I can't say why, cause the Fuhrer's there and it's a spoiler, but still. Don't remember the chapter, but you can see (mostly spoiler-free) it in this Youtube video:
