It was a great story to me. To me it doesn't seem like they were out of character but instead were starting to mature a bit. Keep up the good work

If I could describe Peanuts in statistics, it’d be 98% the characters talking and complaining about life’s roughness and saying they’ll succeed at whatever (next time this, this time that); and 2% them actually doing something about that roughness and actual, aforementioned success. There’s nothing wrong with faith, hope, persistence, and general optimism, per se. It’s just that one can’t go through life on those things alone. I know faith takes things on face value, but does being a good person alone get you into the Majors? Because unless you have some legitimate, memorable successes to back you up, then your faith will only come off as blind.

This story is like March: It comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. You’d think Schulz and the people who adapted his work for television would’ve understood themselves the lessons here. The characters keep preaching hope, faith, and optimism in the world and future for winning baseball games and assorted contests, win the hearts of those they’re in love with, and so forth. They keep acting this way implying that they’re indeed gonna make it…and then that tiresome twist ending strikes, snatches away victory, and it continues in an endless cycle. What’s one impression someone got? That you should keep trying because you’ll NEVER succeed and the universe enjoys kicking you while yer down? I never heard anything more paradoxical since the concept of time travel. I would think trying is the very backbone of success, so I’m not sure what Schulz and co. have been getting at all these years.

I’m rather glad you made it so the LRHG DIDN’T move back. Something that so should’ve happened in the comics. One can only sympathize for a person with problems for so long before it becomes downright tiresome. Why Schulz and co. thought dragging it out would be a good idea, I’ll never know. Money, ratings, entertainment, satisfaction… If you make something last longer than it really needs to, it’s gonna get stale. That’s common sense. And no, it WASN’T much better with Peggy Jean, especially when there were still moments that Charlie’s thoughts kept returning to the LRHG.

Your story seemed this way in the early half…and then it happened: Charlie’s persistence and such paid off, and he not only received an actual Valentine’s card but found himself a girl who returns his feelings and will treat him right. You got that stubborn universe to yield to its own preaching. How can Charlie see any good around him when most people honestly have no intentions of giving him that chance? Linus is one to talk about blowing things out of proportion. What about the fuss he always makes about losing his security blanket. On the other hand, maybe this chat with Charlie subtly helped him learn some things about himself?

I’m also glad Peppermint Patty realized HER own faults and worked to better herself as well. If Charlie needs to better himself, then he deserves company. The chemistry between them could some tweaking, though that might just be me. Of course she and Marcie would send Charlie some stuff on Valentine’s Day. This alone proves my theory that they and Franklin were not supposed to appear in Be My Valentine, CB, let alone in Charlie’s class. (For that last detail, same goes fer Sally.) I believe the producers added them because of their prominence in the comics of the time and because they’d already started appearing in the specials. Otherwise, why wouldn’t THOSE girls send him anything? Concerning You’re A Good Man, CB, I think that Valentine’s scene was better with Violet, NOT Marcie.

Speaking of Marcie, she WOULD make a better psychiatrist than Lucy. The early 1970s showcased her capacity to tell it like it is, unlike most of the others who just come off as jerks. Maybe SHE can convince the other girls about true gender equality, that the answer to sexism ISN’T dumping it on males.

I hope Charlie just crumpled up and threw away those dumb secondhand cards when nobody was looking. Regardless of details, the baseball uniform made from Linus’ blanket was more of a gift anyway. At least they put EFFORT into it. If they’re not gonna take Charlie’s feelings seriously, then they should just back off, ‘cause I see no reason why they oughta lump their pity and hypocrisy on him. Still, this story certainly leaves the readers wanting more. Akin to Charlie’s sentiments, perhaps I’m the same, wanting to believe in the best for Lucy, Violet, original Patty, and even Sally? I mean, if PP could realize her own wrongs, why not them?
My verdict: a decent experience.

Interesting story, good interpretation of the characters, a bit of bad writing here and there but otherwise fine. Good job, you should be proud of yourself.

Heh, nice story here. Linus should be the group's psychiatrist.

Keep the good writing.

I really have to say that I love this story a lot. It was what inspired me to write my fanfic. All of the characters in this story are completely in character and I really feel for Charlie Brown in this story. I really have to thank you for writing this.

You captured the classic "Charlie Brown" feel perfectly, in this.

You got every character perfectly right.

Also, the bit with Lucy and Schroeder at the end was especially hilarious!

Wonderbee31 chapter 1 . 2/14/2007
Great story here, and realaly enjoyed the way you had the Peanuts gang in one that was as close to the animations and comics that I've seen in awhile. I could almost see something like this as a valentines special, and just thought it rocked.
