A lovely story. Excellent worldbuilding, and every one was so very in-character (except, maybe, Kingsley at just one point: playful and daring? You think?). I love Professors/Umbridge conflicts, and this is one of the best I've read. The perfect spelling and grammar was a relief on my eyes.
May I borrow the bit about unpopular Ministry officials being relegated to Azkaban? It's such a lovely worldbuilding element, and I'd love to use it in my HP continuation fics.

A wonderful concept and great descriptions. The entire story as a whole was amazing, but the part that truly stuck out was the end. Not only did you explain the multiple patronuses in a way that was canonically believable, but you highlighted McGonagall's actions in protecting Umbridge as sincere. As much as I loathe Umbridge, the notion that her greatest 'adversary' (McGonagall) could find it somewhere in her heart to want to protect her, even if it may have only been on a notion that all human life should be protected, is very...hopeful. Heart warming even.

The fight was pretty wonderful too.

I've always liked the notion, put forward by one fanfic writer, than Minerva can produce up to nine Patronuses because cats have nine live. That, of course, is essentially a joke; your explanation is better for a more serious story. An excellent tale.

Well written and convincing. A good idea for how to keep the Dementors under control and also a piece of poetic justice. After all, it was Umbridge who sent Dementors after Harry and Dudley.

Intriguing. I liked the way the Patroni's behavior mirrored the conversation. I'm less than canonically convinced of the Malfoy idea, and even less so about using the dementors in this way. It's a little too ethically shady for the perfect, sunny, clean-break-with-the-past sort of Ministry Rowling keeps hinting at in her interviews. McGonagall leaving a Patronus to protect Umbridge was spot-on and awesome.

Maybe it's just me, but something in this story sticks out at me.

Would Shacklebolt have left Umbridge there without any sort of protection from the Dementors at all?

Not that he wouldn't be justified or that I wouldn't do the exact same thing . . . I just wonder if that was a deliberate impression on your part or if I'm just seeing things.
