Very nice story so far. The sadness, grief, and worry is palatable, and I'm enjoying the switch in point of view between Hitsugaya and Matsumoto.

I have faith that Matsumoto will eventually find her way back to everyone.

And when Gin was saying how terrible it must be to get anywhere in life with a lil' kid, I thought he was referring to himself and Ran but now, I'm not so sure.
GASP! did they have a baby? Ohgawd, and for him to say that to her... it's so heartbreaking! I hope I'm wrong and there was no kid cause.. I can't.

I never really was in the Hitsugaya/Matsumoto fan camp really big before. This fic changed my opinion of that, and was a pleasure to read. Wonderfully faithful characterizations you've done. People easily forget just how serious Matsumoto can be (and often is in the manga), and her past relationship with Gin certainly shaped her into the person she is. Loved how you involved their zanpakutou spirits into the story, setting a good emphasis on both their moods, highlighting their differences and similarities.

Wonderuful job, and I'll be jumping in to the sequel quickly.
