Reviews for the breaking point of steel
Camaraderiee chapter 1 . 5/17/2018
I love the style you wrote this in! Thank you!
waitingforAslan chapter 1 . 8/20/2017
Loved this! John wants to fix things but doesnt know how, wrestling his thoughts away from Sam. You convey his Hunter instincts well with his smelling blood when Dean comes in. The metaphor of steel is so good for Dean and him having to weld himself together.
ImpalaLove chapter 1 . 7/29/2013
Alright so this was fantastic, I LOVED this line:

"trying to drown sorrows that damn well know how to swim."

Awesome writing, you captured the emotion here perfectly. I'm excited to read more of your stories!
sapphireswimming chapter 1 . 6/6/2013
This is perfect. My goodness, I could write an essay here as a review and that's still all I would be trying to say. Your wording and phrasing was brilliant and gave just enough of the story and details to flow and be in character without getting stuck in any place longer than you needed to be. And the characterization was just perfect. Wow. Dean in what must have been the worst couple days of his life and John trying to pick up the pieces. I thought you hit a really great balance with him trying to do the right thing but not knowing what it is and so drinking and not trying to break Dean's self imposed silence. It just... gah. I've already read this one through like five times over the past couple weeks and keep coming back to it. It's perfect. PERFECT.
Teyerin chapter 1 . 2/28/2012

Absolutely brilliant, I loved this. The emotion, and Dean and John...just kills me. Fantastic.
Tribble Master chapter 1 . 10/16/2009
Best line: trying to drown sorrows that damn well know how to swim.

I think you did beautifully with John's perspective. It's very heart wrenching.

I want to hug dean. :/

WRITE ON!
V.R. Jennings chapter 1 . 8/30/2009
I just found this and I love it! I love protective John and this is enough to satisfy a hurt Dean girl, lol :) I'm hoping you can make more hurt Dean/protective John stories in the future *hint, hint* lol Keep up the good work!

hugs,

V.

EleanorRigbee chapter 1 . 10/17/2008
Seriously, seriously, like, I'm speechless over here. Giant lump in the throat, possible tears in my eyes. I love fics that deal with the fall out of Sam leaving for Stanford. Because you can't have this family, this unit of three, pull one out and expect the remaining two to be completely alright (god, is it terrible of me that even now, four seasons in, I'm still waiting for the episode where someone tells Sam how Dean didn't deal?)

I love John's voice in this. I love that he keeps thinking about Sam, that he relies on Dean taking care of himself, that he's beating himself up because he does acknowledge his mistakes. I just love this.

*weeps*
bubblesquirt chapter 1 . 5/8/2008
When Dean goes quiet, he doesn't talk again until he's damn well ready. Been that way since he was four.

Sam, though...

John shuts that thought down quick.

-I like how you keep Sam on John's mind, because obviously he wouldn't stop thinking about him and his safety and everything else.

Dean's quiet and John drinks every night more than usual, and you could write an encyclopedia from all the things they don't say to each other. Dean doesn't eat much either, which is more worrying than the silence, because John decided a long time ago that Dean not eating was a sure sign of the apocalypse.

-Eek! So frickin true.

It's warm in Mississippi, warm and stifling humid. (John doesn't let himself wonder about the weather in California.)

-So sad.

They watch her burn in silence, ashes and embers scattering across hair and skin, the smell of rot and fire all too familiar.

-*pouts* This one hurt.

Blood's streaming down his neck from a gash in his hair and the way he breathes screams broken ribs.

-Love the way you write!

He's looking at John now, half-open green eye flooded with anger and pain and guilt and betrayal, and John thinks Mary, I’m so sorry.

Dean stays still while John stitches up his side, face turned toward the wall, barely flinching when the needle goes in.

-This image is brutal. Ouch.

Dean stares at the wall and the encyclopedia gets longer

-Perfect.

Wow. This was so powerful. Sam leaving would have been so horrible for Dean, I always wanted to read something that did it justice. Well done!
