Supernatural Fan Fiction Monthly Awards Review - May 2016

This was heartbreaking. You kept to the characterization of the brothers very well. In Deans case with how he takes on the hard tasks to spare Sam from them as much as possible (doing the exorcism), how much failures get to him (his struggle with giving up on the CPR and accepting the girl is dead), how he compartmentalizes and pushes things down so he doesn’t have to deal with them until the point when he simply can’t deal with anything. In Sams case with the touches of innocence that he still retains but his ability to step up, care for Dean when needed and to make the hard decisions in the end. Plus of course their mutual tendency to do everything and anything to save each other.
The imagery you used throughout the whole story was wonderfully attention grabbing and made things very easy to visualize as an actual episode. The flashbacks were well placed, never interrupting story flow, and slowly pieced things together for me at a good pace as I read. Kavanagh was an incredible OC foe, unexpected, but totally believable.
Dialogue was well placed and balanced with the observations and descriptions throughout.

Awesome story! It really speaks and it's the Winchester boys talking.

This story was very nicely put together. It had a lot of information in a short format, which made it feel fuller than other short stories I have read. I enjoyed the insertions of Sam's observations about Dean, and how different they were in their outlooks. The flashbacks were placed well throughout the story and never interrupted the flow. By the end of the story I could see how Dean accepted that Sam did what he had to do and moved on, but Sam was still fretting over his actions, even though he knew he had no choice. Excellent job!

I liked how you slowly revealed who Kavanagh was and why he was after them. The images you use are attention-grabbing like "a gaping canyon of airy, unwanted weightlessness." One that was darkly humorous was the simile about the doomed plane - handing out parachutes and watching out for the engine on the way down. I also appreciated the balance between telling - Sam tells us things about Dean - and showing: Dean's attempts at CPR reveal the caring person under the hard exterior.

What an excellent story. That was fascinating and I have often wondered if something like this was likely to happen at one time or another.

So I've definitely read this story before but I'm too lazy to look through and see if I've left a review last time, so I'm erring on the side of reviewing again because this story is truly amazing and holy crap it's going right to my favorites (if it isn't there already). You created such a tension and sense of urgency throughout the entire thing, and I was literally on edge the entire time (even though, like I said, I know I've read it before). The characterization of both brothers was spot-on. Loved everything about it, especially your reference to Dean 'flipping switches' like that and how Sam wishes things could be as easy as Dean makes them seem. Seriously, I just love this story and I don't know what else to say so we'll just leave it at that ). Amazing job.

Roach? OK with the tapping thing did Sam do the superstitious three times or just...tap?
