Ok, so I just read Fullmetal's company and checked more of your works and I hadn't realised you wrote this too? I've reread it multiple times and I love it too :3
I shall now have to read Toy Soldier when I can because there's a set precedent that I love your writing styles and how you write your POVs overall!
Someonecallhere chapter 1 . 5/19/2018
I love this outsider's POV. You got it perfectly. And there was an interesting story behind the events to boot. Thanks for the good story!

ilko chapter 1 . 6/26/2016
This is an incredibly compelling and heartbreaking character study of Ed, all the more because it isn't quite right-Hatha sees a lot, but her observations are unavoidably colored by her preconceptions, what she thinks she knows, and what she cannot possibly know, and those omissions are the very heart of who we (having the full story) know Ed is. It hurts to see him so misrepresented, maybe even more than it does to see him beaten and humiliated and unthanked, and that's what makes this fic a small masterpiece of human drama instead of an easy sappy hero-of-the-people skit. It's brilliant. YOU'RE brilliant. Gah.
TheEdifier chapter 1 . 4/26/2016
This story is excellent. I rarely appreciate reading from an outsider's POV, but it was perfectly used here. I love the characterization, it's absolutely spot on.

The last few paragraphs fit so well, it's somewhat bittersweet, but adds even more to further explore the characterization (you really conveyed a lot in a relatively short story). Ed worked so hard to free them, going through pain and being treated so harshly, and isn't even appreciated (at first response at least). All he does in response to that is a burst of loud and angry words (no surprise there) and he leaves. He didn't do this for the fame or appreciation, he did it to help them. And he'll continue to help people even when he has experience with the type of response he'll get. That's how I perceived it at least. Again, the ending really fit well.

I have re-read and enjoyed this story many times. Thank you for the hard work you put into it, it is greatly appreciated.
LeChick chapter 1 . 3/6/2016
God this is amazing. You are one of the few writers on this site that knows how to create and use oc's without the fic devolving into an ooc, mary-sue mess.

DragonDamsel chapter 1 . 5/25/2015
"Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself..." is a quote that keep resounding in my mind as I read this masterpiece. Before this story, I always associated this Sherlock Holmes quote with Detective Conan fandom, but now I'll be thinking of Ed every time I come across the quote again.

"The child she's eaten and slept beside these last few weeks, shown the ropes in Hanvers' mines, and slapped on multiple occasions for being mouthy or stupid. She cannot see him as her equal, and she refuses to see him as her better."

Maybe that's why this bit is my favorite of this whole fic. A big part of Edward Elric life story come down to this, doesn't it? People just doesn't see him.

I like that your OC is realistic. Angry, jaded and bitter with not a bad heart, but not those pure and so good type. She does give a damn, but she doesn't has enough in her to understand. At least, not until it's too late and I just know that she will feel that bitter tang of regret for the rest of her days.

"A child that endured beatings and deprivation and ridicule because the government told him to come free them, and he did."

It wouldn't be a bad memory, per se. Yet, the fact that this whole thing is not their win, that she finally acknowledge it as such is a hard lesson to swallow.
